After just reading another topic about pre op….just curious if everyone gets swabbed for mrsa during their pre op appointment? I work in a hospital and this makes me super nervous!! I don’t want my BA postponed. I’m sure I won’t have it as I’m always super cautious in work but it’s put that element of doubt in my mind.
Everyone has it done I presume, I did anyway. They said if it comes back positive then you just have antibiotics before your op so nothing should get postponed x
Mine got postponed untill i had 3 negative swabs xx
I’m almost certain everybody who has an operation booked must have a mrsa swab done c
It’s 3 and a half weeks between my pre op and surgery so probably just about enough time *if* it did come back positive, I can’t really put it off too much as I fly long haul November 20th 🙁 just have to cross my fingers and toes!
Claire I literally can’t believe how similar our journeys are! We’re both booked for the 11th and just had pre ops.. I also fly end of November! Which is why I’m worrying about pre op stuff too! I did have mrsa swab and blood test xx
I was really nervous about this too as I work in a hospital but mine came back negative thankfully! I’m sure you will be fine and like you said, you have enough time to sort it out if not xxx
I’m going to Cuba so excited, I cannot wait to finally (hopefully) feel more confident in a bikini! 🙂 where are you going? xx
@Claire No way!!! that’s pretty weird ! cant believe how similar, hope you have the best time 🙂 xx
@Gdaisy – they just get you to rub a long cotton bud around your armpit and nose ( well that’s what I had to do!) to check if you carry it. If you do, you need antibiotics prior to surgery and a clear result before they will let you in their hospitals. xx
This was my worry too as I work in a hospital. I had my MRSA Swab yesterday xx
Mrsa swab came back negative. I hadn’t heard anything but just to put my mind at ease I emailed my PC and she confirmed I was negative!
So those of us that work in medical/healthcare just because of the job we do and what we are exposed to doesn’t necessarily mean we are carriers of mrsa which is what I presumed x
