Has anyone else got asthma? My doctor is refusing my letter for surgery because I’m asthmatic, how can I get around this please any advice be very greatful x
Your doctor cannot refuse. He’s not protecting his patient. Have you paid for it?
Keep on at them. My doctor refused for 6 weeks xx
Yes I have paid for it and it’s all booked 20th November, would u advice me to speak to another doctor as need letter by the 30th October x
I mean have you paid for the letter? Usually they ask you to pay because it’s private. I would speak to another doctor and get MYA on their case too xxx
Oh I don’t know Hun I didn’t realise we had to pay May sent them a letter and rang them and I happened to go in today as not been well xxx
I’m sure there are loads of girls who has had asthma and have surgery :/ maybe go and see another doctor? Xx
Hi
In my experience the letter from the gp is a summary of your current health situation any any mess you take. I had to get confirmation that I had never suffered from thrombosis as my grandma did and it’s hereditary.
I panicked big time too ! Last time I got a docs letter it took months.
I asked receptionist what to do and I am at a health centre she recommended at telephone appt with the doctor who is fastest at writing letters.
I wrote down exactly what I needed from him , in the telephone call I told him. It was so easy ! 1 week later & £18 it was done !
Well I suffer with ash a and it’s normally under control till literally I just got the flu and it’s playing me up but that wouldn’t affect me under general anaesthetic and I also know this as spoke to a doctor at the hospital I’ll try another doctor at my surgery thanks girls for advice x

Is your chest bad now? He may not want to write a letter during an exacerbation of your asthma as the general anaesthetic can cause problems (bronchospasm). If you are well it shouldn’t be a problem but if your chest isn’t optimised they may want to postpone your op. I work in anaesthetics.
I had a chest infection didn’t tell them and had problems with recovery. It’s best you get right before having operation.
Yeah I’ve been in hospital but my op isn’t until 20th November and I’ve had general anthestic before twice even 3 times and been fine as long as I’m ok on day of surgery shouldn’t be a problem I never normally have problem with my asthma unless I get a bad cold and my inhalers just can’t keep it under control once in a blue moon x and thanks guys for the tip
