I’m having surgery on 23rd Nov and really getting worked up about having a panic attack on the day. I have anxiety anyway but I’m definitely feeling it at the moment. I know I’ll get a grip, but did anyone else have the same and did the anaesthetist give you anything to calm you down before you even walked to the theatre room? I’m worried that I’ll be freaking out walking down the corridor!!

Hi hunny, I suffer with servere anxiety & actually had a panic attack while putting my gown on! I had already asked in my surgeon consult to be given something to calm me down so I was given diazepam which really really helped & calmed me down completely before I walked down to theatre, talk yourself through everything, I found that helped me. It’s not half as worrying as you imagine! If your surgeon knows you suffer beforehand he’ll make sure you’re first on the list, I went with a harley medical & they were amazing. I had numbing cream for the canula as I’m needlephobic & a lovely nurse who. You can do this, think of the outcome! Breathe through the anxiety xxx

Thanks @bethalex that’s really helpful! I’ve had all my consultations now and my pre op and have told them about the anxiety but haven’t discussed my potential on the day meltdown! I think I’m more stressed about afterwards – not got much time to recover and no time for anything to go wrong! Having unders too so even more worried now. However I’ll take your advice and breathe!! Thanks Hun xx

Hey, I had mine last month and was literally thinking the worst things! I thought I’d cry and have a panic attack etc. However with it being a private hospital it’s all very very calm and clean and everyone is so so nice! Very peaceful! I put music on en route to distract myself. You meet a few different people like your nurse, the anestetic man and your surgeon. When they are ready you will walk down with another nurse and lie on a bed, they pop the cannula in and then before you know it you’re knocked out! I was so scared about the anaesthetic and when the cannula was in my nurse said ‘right let’s go into surgery’ and I was like ‘No I’m still awake!!!!!’ She was like don’t worry we’re just preparing the bed you’ll be gone soon, and that was it! Woke up telling the nurses around me I couldn’t wait to get a spray tan.
Do not worry, once it’s over you’ll be wondering why you were so worried!
