Hiya, I had my op on Friday 21st feb, and my stitches are starting to get painful and sting, I have a bit of blood on the plasters and was wondering can I change them myself before my post op appointment?

    Hey KD

I would leave them alone until your post op appointment ๐Ÿ™ˆ you don’t want to remove them just yet
I was told to leave the dressings on until my 1 week post op then when the day finally came she checked my stitches and they seemed to have heeled well so she cleaned them up and put fresh dressing on and said I could take them on after 48 hours

I forgot to ad The stinging and the pain is normal because you only just had your op
I’m nearly 3 weeks post op and I still have some pain near the stitch area nothing like it was but I was told by the nurse it’s all part of what happens when your healing xx

I think all the clinics have their own advice regarding the dressings. I was given an extra couple away with me incase they needed changed. I had a fair bit of staining which had dried in hard so I changed mine at 4 days post op.

Iโ€™ve got an appointment with the nurse tomorrow sheโ€™s going to change them for me! The blood has dried on my stitches an pulls them when I move so itโ€™s painful x
