I’m 4 weeks 2 days post op and yesterday a scab came off one of my incisions and today it was really pussy red and smelt really weird. I think it’s infected, what should I do??? I’m scared incase my whole scar gets infected:( or what if it spread throughout my whole boob ahhh please help
Also I’ve had tape on them for 4 weeks, changing it every week, because I thought this was the best thing to do. But yesterday I took it off just to try on a bikini and that’s when the scab came off. So now I feel really bad for taking the tape off but I swear most people get the tape removed after 2 weeks???
Hey, this happened to me too unfortunately – I had a stitch abscess (really common, like a tiny little hole in the stitch) but I thought it got infected too cause it was weeping liquid and had a strange odour. I think that’s definitely a sign of infection so call to your nurse ASAP as you can prevent it spreading any further into the breast pocket with antibiotics/iodine dressings etc. but she’ll be able to guide you in what to do.
I don’t want to scare you as my situation was different to yours because of the small hole I had, so don’t panic, but I had to go in for an emergency re-op to replace my implant incase any infection had spread to the implant itself so best to check & be safe than sorry but it should be absolutely fine. It is fairly common they’ll probably just tell you to keep covered up & monitor it just make sure it’s dry after showering & you’re not sweating down there etc. xx
Ahhh okay, My mum is a doctor so she’s cleaned it and given me antibiotics so hopefully it doesn’t spread, I’m really worried that it will:( xx
Hi, I’d call them just in case. Similar to Ellie don’t want to scare you, at 6 weeks PO I had a small hole in my scar (yours doesn’t look like mine BTW as you could see a hole clearly in mine with clear liquid seeping from it all the time) . They removed the implant from my right breast in January and I’m waiting for another date for when they start re operating to pop it back in. They told me then I should have contacted them sooner instead of waiting for the check up with the nurse 3 days after seeing the hole. Great that your mums a Dr and you’ve got antibiotics, the iodine plasters as Ellie mentioned are meant to be really good. Better to check ASAP I’m sure they’ll have a look at the picture you’ve just posted and give you a better idea and hopefully put your mind at ease Xx

I agree with Laurie definitely give them a ring & let them know so you can email over some photos. The nurse might actually suggest leaving tape off your other incision so everything dries up I had mine off from 1 week po myself as I found the tape was just pulling my scabs.
If you go for the iodine it’s called Inadine gauze just cut a strip off & pop it over the affected area & cover with a dressing. Iodine will dry everything up & it’s anti-bacterial too so will help for now. Just make sure you’re replacing your dressings/tape everyday after showering, I think leaving them on for a week is too long you really don’t want any bacteria down there (unless this was your surgeons advice of course). Hope it clears up soon for you xx
Okay thank you so much! I’ve just called them and he said to put a dressing on it but change it everyday. And also he said to take the tape off the other one like you said. I really hope it clears up , I doubt I will be able to get surgery to replace my implant soon if it is infected:( xx

Hi Hannah, I the same issue as you and my scar liked exactly like yours. I was put on more antibiotics and it did eventually go but the hole took longer to close up. I’m not over 4 months post op and unfortunately where the incision opened slightly, the scar has stretched and it is now a lot wider than the rest of the scar which isn’t good. Take good care of it to avoid it widening and effecting the scar x
