i’ve always been really confused as to what exactly you’re supposed to do after your BA so was wondering if anyone could tell me how soon after your op you can have a wash or how long it will be until you can fully have a proper shower. also is it true that you have to wear the same sports bra for a week? xxxxxx

I wasnt allowed to shower for 10 days as my post op was 10 days instead of 7, if u have a 7 day post op check then u will prob be tol u can shower then, it depends on what type of stitches you have. I washed with johnsons baby shampoo for the first month, i didnt wash my scars i just washed my hair an let the bubbles run over the insicians if u know what i mean! after a month i started using sanex zero an just gently washed over them with a soft sponge, no u dont have to wear the same sports bra! u should change it daily hun, make sure anything that touches your boobs are clean, i only had 2 sports bras at first so got my mum to hand wash them every day an changed them every morning – hope this helps x

    Hey hun,

No you dont have to wear the same sports bra for a week. You may need help changing though because it will be hard for you to move your arms and stuff.

You can have shallow baths up to your waist from the day after your op but make sure it is very shallow because you cant get your scars wet at all. Use wipes under your arms and dry shampoo on your hair and be careful.

You will go see your nurse for your 1 week post-op appointment. She will check your scars, clean them and re-dress them. She will then go through washing with you. She should tell you you can start showering from then. You cant have a proper soak in the bath for 6 weeks though just showers with clean running water and dont spends ages in there at first just long enough to properly wash your bits lol just let the water and soap run down over your boobs dont scrub them. I used an antibacterial soap and shower gel to wash just to be safe and then i put a savlon spray on after showering just to be extra safe against infection.

If you dont have a shower continue to have shallow baths for the first 6 weeks so that your scars arent soaking in the water and use a cup to pour water over your body to wash.

    Hope this helps xxx

Hheyy it does depend on your surgeon, Adamo uses waterproof dressings so u can shower straight away and says not to wear a bra at all if you don’t want!! All depends :) xx

Once the wounds are properly closed I was advised to wipe them with surgical spirit on a cotton pad each day to help get rid of some of the redness. My scars are very red though so maybe that was just relevant to me?

im 3 weeks post op, i was able to shower after 10 days, had my check up 7 days but had to have a steri stirp on 1 of my scars so was not allowed to shower until 2 days after to let the scar heal further, i now use johnsons top to toe its mild enough for a new born baby 1st bath so its very gentle on your scars, like flicky said i just let the bubbles run over my scars for the 1st week of showering. i also use antiseptic wipes on my scars to make sure they are clean & dry. also i put cocoa butter cream on the top & sides of my boobs making sure you avoid the scars twice a day morning & night to help with stretch marks.

good luck with your op hun xx
