If you can stay the night before you’ll prob find it better. We drove in last night, rush hour, took about an hour to travel 9 miles! Had to be at the hospital at 7 this morning and was sooooo glad we came up last night. We’re staying at the National Hotel, only 2 miles from the hospital, took less than 10 mins this morning to get there. It’s £60 a nigh for double room with small en suite and breakfast included, was the cheapest I could find.
You obviously could travel the morning of your op but if you get stuck in traffic it could be a nightmare and very stressful, which you don’t need.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
    Xx
