Hi girls – having my BA on 4th (eeeeek!!!). Any advice on how to treat the wounds and then scars after surgery to get the neatest result? I’ve heard bio oil, and wondered if anyone tried those silicon plasters that speed up healing? Thanks
once my small dressings were taken off, (7 days post op), i put sudocrem on them to speed up the healing, i did that for about a week and now ive been putting bio oil on them, i didnt get the proper stuff though, i just got some from superdrug and its just as good! my scars are tiny now 🙂 you can add me if ya want, ive got a picture of them the day i had my dressings off, ill add another one of them now, (5 weeks post op now) x
You’re not supposed to do anything with your scars until you have seen the nurse at 6 weeks post op. Then you can use creams and bio oil and soak in the bath x
I was told don’t put anything on your scars especially oil, and to just leave them alone ( was also told not to massage my boobs aswell). xx
Thanks girls – I will add you x x x
Lovely result nikkijf x
I think this is one of those things where people are given different advice! My surgeon recommended that I massage a moisturiser like bio oil or cocoa butter into my incisions a week after I saw him at my 10 day check up (so at 2.5 weeks post op). My incisions were closed at this point which might vary person to person. He said the important bit was massaging the area as it helps break down the scar tissue to prevent them going lumpy or raised, and the cocoa butter or bio oil might help to fade them. I haven’t had any issues with my scars from doing this and they seem smooth and faint now but I’ve got nothing to compare to if I hadn’t followed this, haha. x
Thanks candyfloss – mind if I add you? x
I was told not to put anything on incisions until after 6 weeks post op too, I have been putting vitamin e oil on the rest of my boos though x
Thanks Nips – great user name! Mind if I add you? x
Lovely results Emztee and Nips x
Ive heard someone talking about Arnica – it helps with the swelling and healing process… Is it pills that you take pre op coz I know you get oil aswell? Just saw Arnica pills in chemist earlier and wanted to buy them but im scared that it will mess with going under anesthesia :S Last thing I wana do is wake up with no boobs coz there was complications due to these pills.
i’m a nurse myself so i’ll tell ye what i tell my own patients, never put anythin on the open would, until ur skin has healed over completely u have a wound and not a ecarr, skin is normally healed and closed over by 2 to 3 weeks, then you can begin to massage the scar twice a day, the very best thing to reduce how much u will scar is eatin the right things after ur op, ur skin needs plently of vitamin c to heal well n it can reduce the obviousness of the scar, plenty n plenty of fluids, alcohol will increase healin time, i’d advise complete avoidance for the first 3 weeks post op, n take it easy, if ye over do it n stretch ur skin u can disturd the wound bed, don’t pick the scabs at any point, if you pick you mite make a worst scar appear, i don’t reccomend bio oil, personaly i think becoz its oily it can lead to spots in the area, silicone is proven to be the best for reducin the appearance of scars, any silicone based cream or gel should work well, but only when the skin is conpletly closed over, the first 2 weeks its best to leave the incisoo
incisions alone as much as possible, for the best results don’t smoke and avoid sittin around smoke for the first 6 weeks, once ur dressins are off, keep ur wounds clean, don’t scrub at them, gently wash with warm water an dry with a clean towel, personaly i’m using baby wipes at the minute, if any part of ur wound is open cover it with a dressin pad (a paster thats sticky all around) u can get a pack for a pound at pondland, the most, MOST impotrtant thing is to eat well and drink loads, the nutrients in ur diet will aid ur skin with the healin process, prevention is better than cure, eatin right means u’ll develop a less obcios scar rather than havin to treat an obvios one later on, foods high in vitamin c are dark leafy greens like kale and broccoli, salad tomatoes, bell peppers, citrus fruit like oranges, strawberries and cherries, and thyme, kale is the one with the most vitamin c in, overdoin it with the vit c could give u an upset stomach, eat loads of protein aswell, meat, eggs, nuts,
i’m following my own advice aswell and i’m really pleased with how my skin is healing, u mite also want to buy an antibacterial wash to use when ur dressins are off, if ye want to add me i have loads of pictures and i’m happy to give u recipies for meals full of the nutrients that are could for healing if u want them, good luck with ur op xxxx
Thanks, great advice x
I didn’t have any scabs when I was 7 days post op, they fell off with my steri strips so I didn’t see any problem with putting sudocrem on them 🙂 suppose everyone is different but my scars are tiny now and haven’t had any problems with them 🙂
Vitamin c drinks and aqueous cream as it isnt scented and doesnt irritate you its really cheap from the chemist i use it to wash them with too. Would leave them for a couple of weeks tho. Good luck xxxx
Dermalmd scar serum really helped heal my surgery scar!
3 months after surgery, my scar was still quite vivid. Then I was introduced to dermalmd and I’m so grateful. It drastically reduced the area and lines of my scar.
