380cc overs, Mr Traynor, First Trust Hospital
ON THE DAY
Got to the hospital at 11.45am (15 minutes late- thanks very much, Virgin Rail!) and was taken to my room straight away. A nurse came in to give me the gown, stockings and paper knickers and have another run through the paperwork I’d filled in at the MYA clinic to check everything still applied. Shortly after that the anesthetist came in to check which hand the needle was going to go in and to tell me about that. Another nurse came in to do my blood pressure and told me that I was second off last on the list, so I probably wouldn’t be going to theatre till between 3-4pm. At about ten to three, Mr Traynor came in to draw the lines on me and check how I was feeling. I have to say, he was A LOT nicer this time than I remember him being at the initial consultation. He told me someone would be back for me within 30-40 minutes and then left. When the nurse took me to theatre, I felt quite hot and flushed in the face as the needle went in, then the next thing I knew I was back in my room with surprisingly little pain. Nurses came to check my blood pressure every so often (can’t say exactly how long as I kept falling asleep), the doctor came to see how I was, and Mr Traynor visited to tell me that it had gone well.
Before reading the rest of this, please bear in mind anesthetic always reacts badly with me, and if you’re fine with it you probably won’t experience this next bit!
For the rest of the night, I only felt two things- the urge to fall straight back to sleep and the urge to be sick. I only had a couple of bites of the toast they brought me and didn’t want a main meal, and because of this they had to give me a fluid drip to bring my blood pressure back up in place of the fact I wasn’t eating. This worked fine and I had it taken out when I got ready to go to bed properly for the night. Because I was feeling so tired, I didn’t even go to the bathroom to look at my boobs until I was getting ready for bed and changing into my pyjamas. I was pleasantly surprised that, even at this early stage where they haven’t yet taken shape properly, they looked pretty good. Was also surprised that my arms weren’t hurting at all as I was told they would (more on this further down!).
I’m not used to sleeping on my back, so that combined with the sickness didn’t really make for a good night’s sleep. I got a couple of hours at a time, woke up for a bit, then got a couple more.
ONE DAY LATER
Was woken up at 6.30am by a nurse who checked my blood again and brought me an anti-inflammitory, two painkillers and some breakfast. Again, hardly ate any of the breakfast because I was still feeling pretty sick. When Mr Traynor came in again, I asked him why my arms weren’t hurting the way they were supposed to when you had unders. He told me this was probably because he’d given me overs! This is where I would advise everyone to get a second opinion on whether you need overs or unders, even if you’re pretty sure you know which surgeon you want to use. I saw Mr Kazzazi first, and he told me I had so little breast tissue I’d need unders, so I assumed Mr Traynor would agree. However, he told me that I’d had plenty of breast tissue and so he’d given me overs, which were much better for me. I should have looked into that more I admit, but I’m happy with the way they look so I’m glad he went for overs afterall!
On the ride home I went to sleep in case I was sick in the MYA driver’s lovely car. Just as well, as I was sick again when I got home and only ate when I absolutely had to force something down in order to take my tablets. The only pain was a heavy ache, which is a lot more bearable than I thought it would be. Getting up and sitting down is an effort, but it’s not that bad. Wanted to spend most of the day asleep again. Throughout the rest of the day I was only sick twice, but still couldn’t eat much.
TWO DAYS AFTER (TODAY)
Feeling a lot better today, I think the anesthetic has left my system. I’ve eaten a lot more today so that’s a good sign. A lot more noticable swelling, and one appears to be sitting slightly higher than the other, but I know that’s normal in the early stages so I’m not worried yet. Still heavy and achey but not what I’d call hurting.
So all in all I’m very happy 😀 You couldn’t ask for better care than I got in First Trust, all the nurses I had were really lovely people and really helpful. Mr Traynor was really nice as well and, from what i can see so far, has done a really good job 😀
Good luck everyone!
