Hi All,
I had my BA on 11th November in Preston.
Everything seems fine at the minute but i have had no bowel movement since last Sunday.
I know this may be a little too much information but is this normal after having surgery.
Please help
Hi hun .i had my ba at Preston on the 13 th nov and I haven’t managed to go to loo since Tuesday .my stomach is killing me and so swollen and hard .ive been taking senecot every day but not working . One if my friends on here has told me its the co codamol painkillers that causes the constipation so I have stopped them now and hopefully things will get moving lol xxx
It’s more likely to be the antibiotics and the pain killers (codeine based) I was very bunged up for a couple of weeks. Drink plenty of fluids and eat plenty of fruit and veg, maybe prune juice. If it’s so bad it’s painful why not take a mild laxative,Senokot
Hi I had my ba on the 12th nov, I had really bad bloating and stomach cramps I’ve heard it’s because of the anesthetic hoping it will go away soon. X
Thats a relief, its good to know that i’m not the only one… i’m just scared of having really bad constipation. i’m 5 days post op and have cut down on the painkillers so hopefully that should help a little.
its definitely normal but you don’t want to let it go on too long, take laxatives, e.g. senecot, drink plenty of fluids, decaff stuff coz caffeine can cause dehydration and make constipation worst, and eat loads of fibre like muesli, potato skins and brown bread, if you don’t go for 7 days then ring the gp or pharmacist and ask what else you can take x
Can I suggest to you all… prune juice.. It works! and its nice and healthy.
Take a glass in the morning, chilled from the fridge, with your breakfast..if it doesn’t work after a few hours then have another glass at lunchtime. Then another one the next morning. You can have a glass of it every morning to keep you going, so to speak.
It might give you tummy ache if you have to much but that goes away after you have been to the toilet.
xx
Aww thanks Sian thats really helpful ,ill be sending my boyfriend to tescos Tomoz for some .xxx
There are a few different makes but the one I like the best is ……..sunsweet Californian prune juice.. You might have to ask for it as they don’t always put it with the fruit juices and its never in the chilled section. Most supermarkets sell it. I get mine from Asda… eating prunes doesn’t have the same affect and neither does eating different fruits. it has to be prune juice.
I always have a glass of this every single morning and I never have a prob going to the toilet and believe me i used to have real problems and once had to call the doctor out. lol
xx
Me to my op was the 11th and my tum bloated n bad stomach aches and think ive been once hoping its the antibiotics now ive heard this then as still takin em hopefully wen i stop em it will get better x
See I’m worried about the medication because I’m allergic to codeine, cocodomol and aspirin (which I know you can’t take anyway as it thins the blood). I sppose I’ll just be on paracetamol!
Im allergic to paracetomal they sorted me with alternatives coz they try to pass u off with everythin paracetomal based or did me untill they looked at notes! Xx
I don’t know if it works or if I’m getting used to the tablets but I’ve started taking Yakut and my bloating hasn’t been as bad as it was days ago. X
Day 4 post op and my poor bloated stomach is so sore and constipated. Took Senokot last night but had no effect. I’m off out to buy some sunsweet Californian prune juice! Thanks Sian xxx
