The C word is all I can think about…….

So after 7 years I decide to have a tummy tuck and breast lift.. Come on here and tell everyone. Then I book it and pay my deposit and feel worried and great at the same time but cant tell my family and friends so I tell you lot (if anyone remembers my fanfare and trumpet thread) I book the 5th Feb and feel like I’m just waiting around and my life is on hold so get in-touch with MYA and ask if I can have a sooner date. I had my pre-op booked for today at 11am… But my surgeon told me because of my age (46) I needed a mammogram. So I booked that last Friday for this Monday.. One day before my pre-op. (I should add, my surgeon said I needed a mammogram back in December when I decided to go ahead with op, but because of Christmas and NY nothing was booked)

I went private and paid for it myself. My first ever mammogram. I wasn’t nervous as there was no breast cancer in my family and I’m fit and healthy, no signs of anything and no lumps felt.
My mammogram yesterday showed something so I had to go for a scan.. I could see the scanning machine screen. The doctor made me turn and lean and lift my arms up but that shadow was still there, no mater what I did.. In my left breast… My husband was called in from the waiting room to be told.

This morning I had to cancel my pre-op and make a doctors appointment instead. I’m now just waiting for a biopsy. I’ve been told it will be rushed through but can take up to two weeks to get an appointment. I will have the area numbed and a big needle will take breast tissue out to be examined. The doctor this morning couldn’t feel anything. She did say that I could of had this shadow since I was 14 and it would turn out to be nothing but as its my first scan they have nothing to go on.

So now my surgery has been postponed while I wait and wait and wait.. I’ve had a little cry and its on my mind all the time.

I think the age for mammograms to start is age 50. I’m 46 and if I hadn’t paid for it and gone private then if there was something wrong it wouldn’t of been detected till It was a lot bigger.

I suggest to all you ladies that are over 40 but under 50 to go and have one done. It cost me £100 and then £95 for the scan but you might be OK and only need the mammogram at £100. Different private clinics charge different prices and this one I chose didn’t need a doctors referral… some do, some don’t.

I’m thinking of doing a blog.. but I’ve no idea where to start.. Does anyone know of one that wont get closed down and taken off the net at a later date ? (I had a website that just disappeared a few years ago and I lost everything)

    Thanks for reading..

    love and sparkly things

Hey, wow, this must be do difficult for you if can’t share with family and friends. I’m sure it’s just a shadow which is common and nothing for you to worry about. Stay positive and just think in no time you’ll be looking forward to your surgery again. Thank you for sharing xx

Wishing you well Sian. I’m 47 and wasn’t asked to have a mammogram before the BA. Thank you for thinking of other people and trying to increase awareness. Good luck 🙂 Hope you get the all clear soon and can then go ahead xx

The reason I was asked to have one is because having a breast lift alters the inside and it screws up mammograms and can show up problems that are not really problems so they ask you to have one before surgery so its on record that you got the all clear.
Even the Radiologist said it was good that the surgeon had recommended that I get one as it can take years to settle down and will show abnormalities up if I did go for one that are not actually abnormalities.

My shadow is 8mm in length, so not big… Well hubby doesn’t think that’s big and neither did the doctor today… I on the other hand think that’s huge!!!!!!
