Anyone with tips for surgery/aftercare/preparations/before and after pics please please please share!

Hey Danielle, welcome to the Vaser lipo group! There are a few of us on here who helped each other through recovery. It’s really helpful having others to chat to, helps a lot. You won’t regret it, trust me, it’s fantastic. Who are you going to have it done by?

Hi! thanks for the reply… well today is recovery day 1. Had the surgery with Dr Grant Hamlet at Manchester yesterday… I was so nervous but Im so glad I did it! I slept the whole thing and woke up done and dusted. I had a rough time last night and through the afternoon – passed out in the bathroom because I kept having to take my leggings down to go to the loo and my blood pressure dropped. Not been too bad today though, bit light headed but no unconsciousness! I just cant wait until the bruising is less tender and the swelling goes down…

When you were post op did you swell in other areas that hadn’t been treated? I have had inner and outer thighs but I swear my stomach is sooo swollen today!! I’m just hoping its part of the recovery process but I feel like a whale!

How long did it take for you to see some pain relief cos ill be honest the meds are strong yes but they don’t seem to be helping with my stiffness in movement… am I due to see an improvement soon? Im due back at work Thursday!!

    Help lol

Hi porkychop I have accepted. I am happy so far but still really swollen so I’m kinda having a personal dilemma as to whether it was worth what I’ve paid but guess I will only know when I see the finished result really. How long are you having and who’s your surgeon? Xx

Hi dan, I hope the recovery is going well :0)
Was the pain what you thought it would be and how long has the swelling actually lasted for? Im currently researching but worried about the recovery time… How long did you have to take off work and were you able to wear normal clothes? Sorry for all the questions would just love to hear about your experience with vaser :0)

Dan – sorry to hear your recovery isn’t as smooth! I read your other post and did the nurses say there was a reason for your tummy swelling? Grant did advise that the heavy swelling will ease in a month, but you continue to see results for the next 3-6 months so we all just need to be patient with the healing πŸ™‚ how did you find the garment? Also I have a driving lesson booked for 5 days after the surgery – do you remember how you felt about 5 days after?

I’m booked in with Grant for next Sat. So excited!! Was definitely hoping to squeeze in the first recovery month while its still cool weather xxx

Bet you can wait till next sat @porkychop !!! I’m really worried about the swelling part as don’t really want it to last too long. Like you I’m wanting to hurry up and make my mind up as don’t want to be recovering in the hotter weather!! I’ve just been on the mya online chat and they have given some great advice on next steps. Excited but want to research a bit more before I book and understand from others what it’d really like… Trouble is there aren’t many people on here who have had vaser or had it on their bum and thighs xxx

Okay ladies I will try my best to answer all your questions! So today I am officially 2 weeks post op and to be honest its A LOT better now! I had a week off work and to be honest I needed it! With inner and outer thighs I don’t think people realise just how hard sitting down is! Driving – I remember day 5 well and there was no way I could have driven… I didn’t drive until day 7 when I went to MYA for my one week post op appointment. I seriously would rethink your driving test @porkychop but then there’s no guarantee you wont recover better than I did – I had 4 litres removed from both legs so if you think about it theres no wonder I was sore! Tummy swelling was normal – lots of people get swelling in other areas cos of the garment compressing the one that’s been treated – my feet even swelled up some days haha! In terms of clothing I literally slobbed around in my garment and a hoodie for a week with the odd swap to my onesie but they said I could wear normal clothes so that was good. When I did go out I put leggings over my garment and it was fine… going back to work I wore my normal work suits which are only a little big baggier at the moment but I think that’s cos of the swelling I have. I am due to see Grant this Thursday just to see what I should expect from my results and essentially if I will get any smaller… at the moment I am going through the dilemma of was this change worth the price… not much I can do about it now but then im only 2 weeks post op so I think im being a little bit impatient with seeing results. The swelling has deffo gone down and I would recommend massage and arnica cream for the bruising. I wasn’t able to do a proper massage (as in press hard) until like day 7 but once you start you don’t half see a difference in the bruising breaking down! Apparently because Grant is one of the more experienced surgeons patients seem to get quite a bit of pain afterwards but in all honest the only way I can describe the pain is like a MASSIVE bruise – which is essentially what it is! When I lay on my back with my legs elevated and comfy I honestly felt fine, it was just the movement side of things so getting out of bed and going to the loo which was hard! but sat still and comfy the pain is more than manageable! @JoJo64 the way I looked at the swelling was this – theres no way Im gonna come out of surgery with 4 litres removed looking any bigger – and I didn’t. The swelling probably went up to my normal size PRE op but two weeks down the line things are settling down and I can even have a proper bath today woooohoooo! relaxation! I was told in terms of “bum” assuming you are a pear-shape like me basically not to touch my buttocks cos it will make your bum go flat at saggy so Grant took all down the outside thighs and all down the inside taking a little bit from the very underneath of my bum (the bit both cheeks meet righ underneath you – near your lady bits – sorry too much info lol) but by doing that hes given my bum a nice new curve and it deffo looks smaller just with the work on my thighs… only issue now is I want my flanks and tum doing haha! – gonna hit the gym for that one and wait until Ive had babies, no point in doing anything before hand really! @porkychop are you going to the Manchester clinic?

Ill be honest. swelling was hard cos you don’t know if you have done the right thing or not… bruising hurt but both only last one week so if you can get through a whole 7 days of it by spending as much time laying down with your legs elevated then you will be fine! my advice is don’t over do it and make sure you have definitely chosen the right area of your body for what you want to achieve cos theres nothing worse than coming out happy with your legs and then not liking your muffin top like me lol!

Good luck to both of you! I will be here throughout the recovery if you think of any more questions and im just about to post “my patient story” on the page so go have a looksy its got well more info in it than on here xxx

Hey dan, thank you so much for sharing your experience, it has been really helpful. So glad to hear everything is now settling down including the bruising. I am pear shaped like you so would like it mainly from this area! You mentioned that dr hamlet recommended not taking it off your bum, does he take it of the hips as so want my bum reduced..! What size were you before hun and does he talk in sizes about how much you can expect it to be reduced? Did you find that you leaked a lot during first week and were you able to walk ok? Thanks so much for the advice hun, will take a look at your patient story. I bet you’re now starting to look fabulous now the bruises are going! Xxxx

Hey Hun! I was a size 12-14 before hand and I’m curently seeing a tiny bit of looseness in my size 12 jeans but not too much just yet. He doesn’t really talk in dress sizes but then he did say I would drop at least one size. He just sort of held bits of my legs and essentially said anything he could grab could go. If you want your hips doing then you need to tell him that as it’s considered a different area. Your thighs go from knee to knicker line (briefs) so you do get that nice little dish at the side of your bum cheeks done πŸ™‚ leaking only lasted 24 hours and it’s maximum lasts 48 so you don’t need to worry there especially if you book a Saturday surgery. I am starting to feel loads better but I keep having to remind myself that it’s early days and will take time to develop my results. Can’t wait to get my new legs back in the gym!! Have you had a consultation yet? It’s non obligation I would 100% recommend you see a surgeon!! Xxx

Also the walking thing was the hardest part I would say. You can walk don’t get me wrong but it’s quite stiff when you first get out of bed. I find walking easier towards the evening cos I’ve been up and about but in the mornings it’s quite stiff after you have been asleep all night. If you’re hoping to keep it a secret then I would plan on doing nothing social for about two weeks and book at least a week off work more if you can get away with it. I’m on two weeks now and I’ve only just started moving normally again and getting in and out the car is still a bit of a faff. Good luck xxx

Thanks hun, I would definitely plan two weeks off then just so I can take it easy. Sounds great that the bits he can grab will disappear, I like the sound of that! Did he talk to you about the risks of lumpy or saggy skin? Not sure if this is common or not. Does it cost extra to have your hips done too?
I bet you’re so glad you’re two weeks in now and that you’re over the worst part, you can now just start to enjoy every week as the results start coming through in time for summer!!!! :0) :0) I bet you look fab! Xxx

I’m starting to feel better managed a little jog today without it hurting so can’t wait to get back in the gym next week! In terms of saggy skin it depends on you personally. If you’re covered in stretch marks then that normally means the skin has stretched beyond the “ping back into place” point so in that area they will be more conservative as to how much fat they take so you don’t end up with loose skin. In terms of everything else that’s what the Vaser technology and the garment does for you. It smooths your results and makes your skin shrink back to your new shape. Mine has gone right back to place even with the mild stretch marks I had right at the top of my inner thighs so I wouldn’t worry too much Hun. In terms of cost they normally go on how many hours you will be in for (max being 2) so it wholly depends on how much you need taking. If you’re like me and want four litres off your thighs then that took the whole two hours just on my legs but if you want a bit less and say have an hour and a half on thighs and then a half hour on hips then it should be the same price. If you go for your consultation they will tell you how long they think you need and how much it works out the finance is pretty reasonable to be honest. In terms of lumps there is obviously a risk of that but your garment helps smooth them out and if you are religiosity with your massage after day 7 then they disappear anyway I had two lumps on my right leg and after four days of massage they’re completely gone and I did the massage myself with the help of YouTube videos I didn’t pay for a professional so home massage is just as good!! Seriously if you’re teetering on the edge of making a decision just book in and have a chat with grant and I am 100% that by the end of the consultation you will want to book in. Good luck Hun! Xxxx

    Hi Dan

Thanks so much for your response! Great to hear that you managed a jog – I jog three times a week right now and am going to hate not being able to do that! I am getting it done on Sat am, at the Fenchurch street clinic in London. Will probably cancel my driving lesson just to be on the safe side – thanks for the advice. I can’t wait for you to see your final results. I will soon be in your position and can definitely already imagine being impatient with it all.

I am trying to organise myself ahead of Sat – do you have any tips for things that are handy to buy/prepare for the recovery period please! I am thinking arnica cream although the nurse said I shouldn’t use it; also organising some ultrasound/lymphatic massages (do u mind sharing a linky to the YouTube you used for your massages -self treatment at home sounds amazing!) from my conversation with grant I think he advised I get 5 days of ultrasound massage soon after the surgery – did you only start massage 5 days post op? I have a week off work so just going to stock up on easy lunches as ill be looking after myself during the weekday days. Is it worth getting extra absorbent padding?

I have come off my contraceptive pill as advised – so strange to break it for the first time in about ten years!

    @JoJo64
    – yes grant and none of the doctors talk about sizes – this is less about weight loss and is more about definition and body contouring. They simply cannot guarantee that you will go from 12 to 10 or whatever. But before and after pictures will def help, and once you’re all healed you should be able to see some amazing results. Lipo of the bum is a nono – the bum can be given more definition through targeting outer thighs, and also the area Dan talks about.

    Thanks girls xxx

Okay so prep for sat. They give you pads for the bed – put these UNDER your mattress sheet else they slide off and you don’t wanna leak on your mattress- messy! I took a onesie and some uggs to have the op to make it nice and easy to get dresses after – flip flops are also a good footwear choice. Towel for the car seat on the way home and a cushion if you have one (depending on how high up the inner thighs you’re having it will help trust me) I lived on soup for about 5 days nice and simple and also healthy! Get a Multi pack of big water bottles for the side of your bed and have all your meds close to hand – I had mine in the til draw bedside cabinet. I know they say eat healthy but you have to watch your blood sugars too so I would get a pack of cadburys chocolate fingers or something that you can have a little nibble on before you’re due to remove your garment or nip to the loo just incase! All I did for the massage was type into google lymphatic massage legs and used the first YouTube link. But basically you do little nudges up the insides of your thighs about three inches apart from groin to knee. Then stroke down with a bit of pressure from knee to groin to draw the fluid into your lymphatic system. It’s dead easy honestly! And quite relaxing when the pain stops! Once you’re able some simple stretches so heal to bum and touching your toes also helps loosen you up. I used arnica and still am. I took the tablets or two weeks before surgery and used the cream once I could have a shower after the op. At my two day post op appointment my nurse said the bruises looked like a two week post op patient so it definitely works! They don’t recommend because there’s been no proper research into it but I honestly swear by the stuff! I would agree on the driving lesson Hun just to be safe. Last thing you wanna do is waste a lesson or be in pain throughout!
I’m gonna speak to the clinic about getting my pictures just so I can add them to my profile for people to see. I don’t have a single before picture so I can’t even show you the comparison πŸ™ defo feeling loads better this week I am now seeing more defined changes so defo glad I’ve done it! Jeans are definitely feeling looser now I’m just so impatient I can’t wait to see what I will look like in a few weeks time! Got a wedding to go to at the end of April and can’t wait to get a nice dress and some good pictures πŸ˜€ good luck for Saturday Hun make sure you let us know how it all goes afterwards! What time is your admission? Xxx

Ahhh Thanks @Dan so much for the tips – didn’t see them till tonight but have stocked up on Arnica and bought a wedge pillow too πŸ™‚ The soup trick sounds great I’m def gna do that! Apparently I’m 1st in, at half 8 on Sat….too excited.

I have booked in for an aftercare session at Grant’s clinic with his therapist – they are very expensive (Β£150 for an hour) but I thought I’d just have one and see how I get on. So getting that done on Monday 2 days post op. They massage, change dressings, do ultrasound. I’ll let you know if they are any good.

I’m glad your results are getting there. I will definitely struggle with patience, especially as its getting warmer by the day! Have bought some pitch black tights to go over compression garment. And some silicone patches for the scars too. I think I’m as prepared as can be, cannot do much more now. Just wait πŸ™‚

Will def take some before pics so I and you ladies can see the transformation. Just been for my last jog for a while now… What will I fill my evenings with!?

The areas that I need to focus my massage on now that I’m dropping swelling which was good! The aftercare clinic sounds great but yeah like u say pricey! I’m gonna treat myself to another garment as I get smaller I’ve gone from large to medium now so I think in anther week I’ll need a small! I’ll be thinking of you on Saturday – you will experience the lovely smell of Vaser! You will have to let me know if you sleep through it or remember bits. I was totally out so remember absolutely nothing! The anaesthetist got worried at one point – I knew I would react like that I love my sleep haha! My patient story is finally up tonight so go check it out it literally spells out exactly what happens on the day! Can’t wait to hear from you afterwards!! Xxx

I’m booked in for Vaser on 8th April for my lower and upper abs and flanks with Kingdon. I really want my thighs doing too but he said my upper half will take the full two hours so I’m gutted. Hi Lucy. To be honest the only thing you can do is work out what you want doing. Mine took two hours on thighs and in all honesty I should have done it your way round not mine lol. They said to me I can always go back and have more out but there’s no way I can afford it so I’m back on gym and excercise ASAP! I’m happy with my results on my legs don’t get me wrong they’re fab but it’s just one of those things u need to pick wats most annoying to you really… Which ever area you go for the results will be worth it. You just have to wait a few weeks for the swelling to reduce to fully see the difference. Xxx

Hey @Dan just read your story its amazing ! Really detailed! Relaly helpful hun, thanks for sharing πŸ™‚ very brave of you. I can’t believe its tomorrow! Have uploaded pre-op pix into my album. @Lucy – I’d say if you want both thigh and tum done but can only afford/only want to do one, then just think which area would you lose weight in easier? I know that my things for example are the last to go. They never go, but my tummy does. So it just depends on your body shape πŸ™‚

    Done! Vaser all done.
I was first to be admitted which was lucky. Was out completely and didn’t feel a thing, and definitely didn’t tell Grant any secrets, which is what I’ve heard some girls do! Hehe. So basically total amnesia of the procedure which is the best way. But straight after i woke up, i was in tears! couldn’t help it – it is one of the side effects of the sedation and although I felt happy, I just couldn’t stop crying! Apparently that happens a lo, it wore off after a little while. Am now at home, propped up in bed with a few wedge pillows to elevate my legs. Had a long snooze for about 3 hours. Very oozy at the moment, so much so that it drips through the garment and onto the floor when I stand up to go to the ladies. I have wooden flooring but ladies beware if yu have light carpets! I think the best way is to wear a pair of trackie bottoms which are tight at the bottom, and old ugg boots so anything that drips will be caught.

Am in a fair bit of pain now so topping up on co codeine (paracetamol and codeine), you also get a 7 day course of antibiotics, a 7 day course of anti inflammatory pain killers (I have brufen retard, yes, retard – seems quite apt to how I felt when I had all the hospital gear on like the gown, green foam slippers, thong and hair tidy which they give you…), and some tramadol (painkiller ) to take as required.

Having slept for 3 hours my body is crying out for food so going to have some dins and drink lots of water. By the way my garment basically has a hole for when I need to go to the loo, which is a little strange but very handy – so I don’t have to pull the whole thing down every time.

That’s it for now – all I can say us that the team was brilliant and Grant too – made me feel really comforts le when marking me up with sharpies when I was stood there pretty much naked… So not too awkward. If any of you ladies want more info on what happened on the day in detail just PM me.

    The recovery period begins!Xxx

Hey porkychop! Glad all went well!! I got brufen retard too but didn’t get tramadol – very jealous! The nakedness is a bit mental wait til you have your after appointments knickers are a thing of the past! I am also jealous of your garment having a gusset mine doesn’t and it’s a nightmare to pee!! I was kinda hoping you would remember something so you could tell me what it was like haha looks like we’re both destined not to know! Keep me posted on how you’re doing. This is the hardest bit now the waiting the swelling the wondering if you did the right thing. By week three I bet you will be thrilled if not before!! Happy bed rest! Xxx

    Menu

So day 1 post op hasn’t actually been too bad. I managed to sleep through the night apart ( from one cheeky wee), on my back with my legs elevated. I’ve bought an inflatable wedge pillow from eBay for a tenner – would highly reccommend unless you already have pillows at home. Have kept legs raised at 25-45 degree angle to ease the swelling and have felt fine – a bit of tugging and pulling here and there but generally managed a quick lunch at a cafe in the sun, and a food shop. I also find that if I move around every now and again it helps with the stiffness. The treated areas are sensitive to touch, and sitting on the toilet is painful if you put your whole weight on it (I had my banana roll treated).

Will report again tomorrow on aftercare appointment at Grant’s clinic and 1st post op if people find it helpful πŸ™‚

@dan – I did get tramadol but haven’t really taken any yet as it could make you feel quite unwell and I don’t feel like I need it at the moment – they say to either take cocodamol or tramadol, not both together…. By the way – at what point can you shower, @dan? Would it be before your first post-op, or after once they change the dressings? Have resorted to sink washes in the meantimel…..Xxx

Hey hey!! That’s amazin for day 1 god I was in bed all day sooooo sore! How many litres did they take out!? I had my banana roll done too oooooh the toilet seat pain haha!! I feel you there! You can shower after you have your dressings off and it is the best shower you will have in your life haha you can’t have a bath until two weeks post op. I was sore to touch for about six days but grant said to start massage from day 2 – I’ll be honest I couldn’t I started day 6 begrudgingly. Couldn’t put any pressure on til about day 10! You got this week off work then? Xxx

    Menu

Ah I thought they changed your dressings, but if they take them off completely then that’s good! Thanks Hun. I’m nt sure about litres yet – I know it took an hour and 40mins I think. Will ask tomorrow πŸ™‚ yep off this week mon-wed, then working from home thur and fri so no commuting for me which is great. Had to go down as holiday though, not getting away with taking it as sick leave cos it’s self inflicted! Ha. Xx

Hey Porkychop, I feel really uncomfortable. The op went well on Friday 14th admission was at 1130 but they were running late so didn’t get started until about 3pm. Grant had drawn all over me, lord knows what he was planning but I trust him. I woke up a couple of times during the op but don’t really remember much. They took 3 big tubes out. I was really ill after the sedation and didn’t get out of the clinic until 9pm, I had really low blood pressure and kept being sick, which continued when I got back to my hotel. Felt ok yesterday, uncomfortable so just lounged all day. Stopped leaking this morning, I wish my suit was black not skin coloured! My vest in have to wear is a monster, a couple of inches thick and makes me feel massive! I have my 2 day post of with the nurse tomorrow, I’m scared what’s going to be underneath the suit!! But I can’t wait till I can have a shower and change my suit. Sleeping is tricky I sleep better more upright I can’t breath very well in my back with the vest on. I haven’t had a poo yet either… Might have to get something to help that along. I’ve just been taking paracetamol and brufren, I’m allergic to codeine. I’ve got tramadol but don’t need them. Getting up is the hardest thing but once I’m up I’m ok. I have some MLD booked in on Tuesday and wed. I will post again after my appointment tomorrow. How are you? Xx

    Menu

Hey @katt! Sorry to hear you had a tough time with the early recovery! Did you have thighs done too or tummy? And were you at the London clinic – if so I may see you tomorrow – I also have a post op tomorrow but in the afternoon 4:45. It’s good that your leaking has stopped – that was such a nightmare I couldn’t walk anywhere without dripping. I haven’t been to the toilet for a poo either yet – am trying to eat fibrous foods like all bran, lots of fruit and veg, and I hear prunes are good too. I bet you’ve had to drink lots of water after your op day to replace fluids, poor you! Yes I remember grant marking me up – it was all different colours, some of which stayed on the toilet seat after my pre-op wee (lol).

I’ve tried to see under my suit too but not seen much, apparently they take the dressings off tomorrow so guess we will both get a glimpse!

I’m ok, I think I’m getting off rather lightly compared to a few posts on here but maybe the worst is yet to come. I have an hours commute to London tomorrow so hoping that goes well for the post op check. Hope it goes well for you! Have you got the week off work?

    Spk soon xx

I’m just back from my appointment with the nurse, I’m having my follow up appointments at Bristol because it’s a but easier for me to get to. The results are amazing so far! I was worried what I was going to see under my suit but I’m so pleased, I’m black and blue but still so pleased! I have something that I’ve dreamed of and I know I could never have got for myself without staving myself and living in the gym. The nurse was great, she just took off my dressings, cleaned the incision sites and trimmed my stitches. Xx

Awww Kat I’m so pleased you love your results sounds like you have had the worst recovery of all of us!! Porkychop how did today go? The lack of dressings was so much easier for me they didn’t half pull when I had to take my garment down! I’m just trying to juggle my six week post op appointment now cos Grant is in London for the rest of the month but he said I need to see him… Hmmm who knows what I’ll end up doing! I am dying to get back in the gym and have to wait til next week too… It’s doing my head in!! Lol xxx

Great to hear Katt that you are happy with your results! I can’t really see massive results yet, they said my legs are still very swollen and will take a while to calm down.

The therapy appointment with Grant’s therapist at the wellbeck hospital was good. She massaged my thighs (uncomfortable but bearable), did ultrasound and changed my dressings. Not worth Β£150 though so I have bought an ultrasound machine to use at home (she advised me on a model) and also learnt from her how to do the massage and got some tips. I am some pretty purple colours especially at the back of my thighs now, will upload some pix soon. Not booking info for any further appointments with the therapist. But the best advice she gave me was to slowly build up my level of activity and do some half squats or leg circles and build them up…. This is to help with the edema stage – the more you work the muscle, the less likely swelling is likely to form between that muscle and your skin… Obviously don’t go mad straight after the op but being active and slowly increasing mobilisation is good for you πŸ™‚

The post op at MYA was fine – they’ve left two plasters on but the rest have come off, so I was able to shower! Ahhh finally. The only issue is that my garment does not feel tight enough on my knees and thighs and I’m worried it may affect results. Have tried the second garment they gave me, but it is the same size as current, so am going to see if they can give me a smaller one – does anyone know if they do an extra small? If not I guess I’ll just go get some super tight spanx! Dan did yours feel super tight? Cos mine started off being tight but has loosened over two days…

And Dan are you thinking of going back for more ? Oooh exciting!?I know grant’s in the us for a couple of days but back soon so I’m sure he’ll find some time to see you πŸ™‚ xxx

    Hi Girls,

I was in for vaser on Saturday in Doncaster (upper and lower abs and inner and outer thighs and under my butt), was due to go under at 1.30pm but the person before me was a larger job thatnthey anticipated so it was 3pm before I was seen. I went straight under and remember nothing at all until I woke up in recovery which is good as that was the thing I was most worried about.
After the procedure we rove back home to Newcastle I slept the whole way in the car but getting out back at home was tricky and I shed a tear or two so just went to bed. Sunday I was a bit stiff, but could move around and managed a small walk with my dogs.

I had my 1st Post Op on Monday and they took the garment and 4d vest off and changed my dressings and said all wounds were pretty much healed and I can shower in a few days, I wouldnt look when they took the suit off as I want to wait a bit longer before I see my body, it was hard not to take a peek. The garment isnt bothering me at all but the vest is so uncomfortable as it is too long for my body so digs under my arms and makes me look like the mitchelin man!!

I’m not 3 days post op and just under my butt is tender and I agree going to the toilet and putting your weight on the toilet seat is painful, but it’s definitely getting easier each day.

I’ve never been advised by anyone do the massage, has everyone else been told this?? xxx

I’m 5ft 2 and about 9st 2 is anyone of similar build having it done? I do have a bit lose skin as a result of weight loss but do you think the garment will help? I heard the ultrasound helps this… Also if I go with dr kazzazi it’s at Doncaster which is closer to Newcastle to get home after do you girlies recommend just staying over or think iid be ok being driven home (2hrs 21 approx) Next consultation is the 7th April eek!!! Hi Ladies,

    @Lianne
    – Im glad your surgery went well! Its such a nice feeling being able to shower – finally! Youre being very brave nt taking any peels – Ive been looking at mine and like to see the bruising and how it will hopefully improve πŸ™‚ Im also self-massaging, so kinda need to look at them!

Yes the butt does get really tender, but Im 4 days post op and it is already getting better. I think the massage really helps.

If you think of it this way – you have (self-inflectingly) put your body through quite a traumatic experience. It is bruised and swollen. This means that you need to feed it vitamins (healthy eating), do gentle exercise/move around (to work the muscles) and massage it to help get your body get rid of the fluid which was pumped into you/fluid from swelling, and also get your skin sensation back by massaging it and getting it used to the touch. There is a lot going on here, and what ultrasound does is send vibrations through the skin which helps healing. Being active means you work your muscles and this means that there is less chance of fluid being trapped between the skin and the muscle, forming an edema (a patch of swelling). The tightness of your garment also helps the skin retract and fluid not form between the muscle and the skin, by keeping the muscle and the skin close to each other. Massaging your skin helps stop the fluid from sitting where it is (in your thigh or tummy etc), and helps your body absorb it and flush it out, as does drinking plenty of water. Im no expert, but I have learnt this from speaking to the nurses/doctors/massage therapist.

I have had both massage and ultrasound and am feeling considerately less stiff today, and the back of my legs under my butt are much less painful (I can pretty much sit on the toilet normally now). The back of your legs is usually a more painful area anyway because if you sit with your legs elevated (which is advisable), this is where all the fluid is going to pool. If pockets of swelling are left as they area, they can develop to edemas and become problematic. You want your skin to heal smoothly, without any bumps. If you look at some of the post pix in my album, you will see that the inside of my thigh is uneven. I took this photo before massage. The massage clearly helped smooth this swelling out.

I think people will read different things about massage and ultrasound but its def working for me!

    @Sarah
    – welcome to the vaser club! I have not heard of either surgeons, but am 5 foot 4, 9 stone, and have had my thighs done. The saggy skin depends on your general level of activity and age, I think the younger and more active you are, the better your skin condition, and the more elastic your skin is, and more able to retract and become tight against your new shape. Ultrasound is meant to have a skin rejuvenation and tightening effect. I cannot comment yet on mine as it is a bit early. THe garment will help prevent swelling forming in between your muscles and the skin, so probably will help with skin retraction.

I managed an hour drive home (as a sleepy passenger) after mine. I think they recommend that you should be within an hours drive from the clinic in case you are delayed /need to come back, so if I were you I would find a clinic closer to home/ or find a place closer to the clinic xxx

Hello ladies, I’m much more mobile today, the pain is less but my back still feels a but numb. I had a session of the MLD massage, she said all looks really good and I’m young so shouldn’t need many sessions. @lianne no one really mentioned massage except for on this forum, I want the best results so thought I’d give it a try. I’m hoping to do some light exercise towards the end of the week, just arms and legs obvs. Xx

@sarah, I’m taller than you and heavier but have over 3 stone, the surgeon warned he may not be able to go as far with me because of my skin, he said I’m young (27) so I should ping back. Xxx

@porkychop mine feels nice and tight when it comes out the wash but then it loosens… ive got two sizes tho my spare is a size smaller cos they thought i would need it when the swelling went down. Ive ordered an extra one off the MACOM website for myself, I got the cut off one that goes right up to the bust… cant wait for it to get here! I’m not going for any more no grant just said he wanted to see me at six weeks to make sure im doing okay… I would go in for more definitely but cant afford it and to be honest the areas I want doing I might aswell wait til Ive had kids before I look at flanks and tum πŸ™‚
God @lianne you had a big area done bet you are feeling it now!! how much did they take out? I got told about the massage by my nurse and just searched it on youtube so I could do it myself – Ive not told anybody you see so the last thing I wanted to do was go for a massage and try to explain lol
Hi @Sarah welcome to the Vaser club!! Ive not heard of either of those surgeons but i would just type their names into google and see what comes up – they only use the best at MYA so im sure you will be in safe hands! I bet you cant wait to get yourself booked in before summer! I had a bit of loose skin from weight loss too (I lost 3 stone) and the garmet has helped loads its just pinged back to shape! I would say if you have someone to drive you then you should be fine going home just ask them to take it easy on the corners so youre comfy – you will probably sleep the journey!!
@Katt glad youre feeling better today – the more you guys chat about massage the more Im tempted to go for one myself but I might wait til the bruising heals a bit more first… Think I will be taking some more pics at the weekend might even take some with some normal undies on to look at the difference though I have tried some jeans on which were quite snug before hand and theyre sooooo comfy now so im made up!!

    Happy recovery ladies xxx

@Dan im not sure how much was taken out i’ve got the picture but my partner has it so im not sure, I didn’t need a huge amount removed I just needed those areas shaped, im only just over 5 foot and have always been quite muscular and being small when you have a bit of weight i felt huge so hence the areas I got removed.

I’m actually feel a lot better today, i’ve cut the vest under the arms and it is more comfortable now but like you Dan I have only told my partner so the vest makes it hard to hide!! How long did you have to wear the vest?? Do you do the massage with your garment still on?

    @Sarah
I was told by the nurses at the clinic that the 2 hour drive would be ok but if it was any longer we would have to stop to walk around to reduce the potential for DVT and I just had to promise I would wiggle my toes on the drive home xxxx

Heard that my surgeon is one of directors at mya and has special interest in vaser!! Grant trains them to his standard so feel reassured and yeah they only use the best!!! Love all the tips for preparing @dan there’s things you mention that I’d not have thought of I.e massage and using the arnica! Does the leaking smell? Xxx
