On 19th of Feb whilst in Highgate I was in theatre having my tummy tuck and uplift done and instead of waiting in my hospital room for 4 hours for me to return, my hubby went out to go and look for a room for two nights as he hadn’t booked anywhere. He fell over on cobblestones (not on hospital grounds but on footpath) He went to the local a&e ..Hubby waited over 6 hours to be seen and we couldn’t text each other as his battery was going flat as soon as he got there. It was now about 5am and he hadn’t booked a room so had to sleep in car. Hospital said it was soft tissue damage.
He has been in so much pain and trying to look after me all week and I’ve been virtually bed bound and cant get out of bed without help, to go to the toilet.
He decided to go to our local hospital this morning as he is so much pain.
He has just called me…… HE HAS BROKEN HIS LEG. He is my only carer and has been struggling to go downstairs to get me food, let alone get me out of bed to pee. I’ve seen him in pain and not asked him to help me do so many things…. like washing myself, putting clean knickers on.. at one point I couldn’t even brush my teeth as our sink is too big and I got back from hospital and couldn’t even reach for my toothbrush. I’ve just lay in bed with my back aching so badly and not asking for a back massage as I could see him in pain.
Yesterday I tried to wash and shave my legs as they are itching so much. I couldn’t reach and ended up in tears.
He has done loads for me too like getting my pain meds, drinks, Food, puffing my pillows up, fetching me stuff, taking me to see the MYA nurse. He even managed to wash my hair before my MYA visit.
Ive just been crying and it hurts to cry 🙁 I feel useless, helpless and guilty. I’m all swollen and really umcomfortable and in pain but I cant cry in front of him coz it will make him feel bad. The house is a tip.. well our bedroom is.
That’s all I’ve seen in 9 days but I’m sure the kitchen will be the same. I know he hadn’t emptied the kitchen bin.
When will this hell I’m living in at the moment, end.
Ah bless you that is just awful. Don’t get yourself down hun your husbands leg will fix and in no time at all you will be back up and about with your beautiful new body. xx
OH MY GOD you poor thing, my boyfriend had a broken collar bone when i had my BA and I was lucky I could manage most stuff on my own, we were renovating our house at the time so didn’t have a kitchen or bathroom anyway! I cant even begin to imagine how difficult it is for you with a tummy tuck as well! You just remember that the pain is not forever and you are over the worst of it now!
Only a hot bod to look forward to!! and maybe a payout from the highgate council!?

which bone in his leg has he fractured hun? and has he been to fracture clinic yet? they put a lighter cast on in fracture clinic so its not as heavy on your body so your able to do alot more. and make sure he gets advice on how to use crutches!! some nurses just give u them without telling you ways which can make it easier, i tell my patients the best way of using them. i.e. use only one cructh to get upstairs and use the hand rail, put your good leg first when going upstairs and your bad leg first when going down, or if hes quite young and fit use his bum to shuffle up and down stairs. usually take 6 week for the cast to come off. if you want any advise just PM me im an A&E nurse so feel free! xx
Hi Jayde,
He has broken his tibia bone in his right leg. He has crutches that the hospital I was in gave him (so nice of them) they showed him how to use them. He went to our local hospital today, to the fracture clinic. He cant use his crutches to go upstairs as he is always carrying food for me from the kitchen. He cant use the crutches in the bedroom as he is normally trying to help me. He is doing everything around the house and shopping.
He rests in bed when he can.
Still upset but feeling a bit better now
Thanks for advice xxxxxx
