Hi Ladies,
Op is now 6 weeks away and pre-op is on Thursday.
I’ve been eating clean and healthy for weeks now and cannot shed a single pound. I eat small regular meals throughout the day, small amount of carbs in the morning bran flakes and yogurt or porridge, salad/veg and lean meats for lunch and dinner and fruits for snacking. I exercise 5 out of 7 days by running, thai, various other cardio, weights and climbing. Any other time this would work for me, but this time it’s just not happening, and cant figure out why.
It’s really getting to me as even though I’m not fat (I do have fat to lose) my BMI classes me as overweight. I know BMI is a load of bull, but I know some doctors and nurses still abide by it and don’t want it to affect my op in anyway. I know partially the reason it’s so high is because I carry more muscle than average. I want to lose the weight now, to reduce any sort of chance of rippling.
I’m 5’3″ current weight is 66kg (was 60kg before Christmas)
Has anyone had any problems like this? Has it effected your op or pre-op?
So if anyone has any ideas or tips it would be greatly appreciated 🙂
I’m probably over thinking this, but just want to make sure. Thank you! xx
You’re probably not loosing weight because you’re gaining muscle. I’m very similar to you in terms of a clean diet and the exercise I did pre op but I struggle to get below 9 and a half stone. I think my body is just designed to be this size xx
Also getting fit is a slow process so try not to be disheartened xx
I know, still sucks though. How did your pre op go ? hope you don’t mind my add? xx
Try going mad and eating crap for one day.. sweets, doughnuts… anything you fancy. I was on Weight Watchers for years and got stuck in a rut and didn’t loose for 3 weeks so I had a day off and made myself feel sick eating loads of crap and then went straight back to being healthy and lost 4lb the next week and it all started to work again.
Try it. … it has worked for a few friends too.
Or maybe you are not eating enough.. its a fine line to get it right and with you exercising you might need more calories
hey, does sound like your could be gaining muscle so your weight wouldnt change, you could try doing more cardio at the gym campared to weights. Treadmill on a steep incline is good for this 🙂 also agree with sian have a cheat day as it shocks your matabolism and can realy help. Also while fruit it good its realy high in sugar so try to limit and maybe have more green veg. Hope that helps 🙂 xxx
Sorry I meant the exercise I did before my op. I’m 4 weeks post op today but have managed to maintain my weight from mainly eating clean. Also I agree with Chelsea, try to have more veg than fruit, more fish than meat and try to go vegetarian for one day a week.
I’ve accepted your friend request xx
Cheat day sounds good to me 🙂 mmmm chocolate!!
I thought that it may partially be down to muscle gain, but my abs have disappeared lol. I WISH I could eat fish, just cant stomach it, unless its from the chippy with curry sauce haha! Are there any good alternatives to fruit? xx
Id maybe try some protein shakes! I use the Protein World Slender blend ones, you don’t have to exercise with them but you obvs loose more if you do.
They are so good and taste yum! Vanilla is pretty strong but really tasty, I’m going to try strawberry next as i’ve heard it tastes perfect not to strong etc!
You need to measure yourself not weigh yourself…. fat turns in to muscle so the likelihood is that if you had measured yourself you would have seen inches falling off rather than scales moving. Also, fruits are natural sugar but still sugar so you shouldnt eat fruit unless you have it with protein to balance it out.
Branflakes have lots of fibre so if you eat too much it can cause weight gain. Also, cardio wont solve your problems… think of it like this… if you went to the gym, pressed the go button on the running machine and then went and sat down with a coffee, when you came back to that machine 20 minutes later it would say you had burnt 150 calories!!! But how could you if you wernt even on it!!! Try weights and squats and lunges are really good for losing fat as your working the largest muscles in your body (legs) so it burns more fat than any other muscle.
My fiancee owns his own gym and nutrition company so thats why I know all of this!!! Try not to eat carbs on your non workout days and if you are eating carbs try eating sweet potato or brown rice or even better, gluten free pasta as it stops bloating!
Ahh Lizzie, I’ve just bought a new protein 🙁 Will have to try that next though.
Thank you Kelbel, more squats it is! Think measuring is defiantly the way forward 🙂 xx
could also try the 100 squats a day challenge! or kx 30 day challenge 🙂
