I have my op booked for May 21st and I am scared to death I am going to have a panic attack on the day or even worse when I’m under anesthetic (if that’s pos) i already suffer with anxiety issues and all this worry isn’t helping…can anyone relate or have any experiences of there own they can just reassure me with. I get like tremors and everything with my anxiety and just think I will be that one person that it all goes horribly wrong for…Arghhh – things we put ourselves through eh!

Hi sweet, I have had anxiety since I was young.
I take 300mg of venlafaxine every day, it can’t be upped, and it’s still a huge problem!
I was absolutely fine on the day, even drove myself to the hospital and mum drove home.
Leading up to the op I was really anxious, I had that constant dread feeling and feeling so sick and my tummy was really lurchy (if that makes sense) felt like it was going to drop out! And really shaky.
It really surprised me as I woke up on the day feeling incredibly calm, drove there fine, and was fine in the hospital.
You’ll be fine, as it’s something you want, and you’re looking forward too.
Feel free to add me 🙂 we can have a chat xxxx

Hi Jade, I’ve had anxiety problems that the thought of th op made it worse! I have a few medical issues that my mind just went into free fall and every worse case scenario played out in my mind when I was coming up to the op! I couldn’t breathe for weeks before ( while it was caused by other issues putting myself through the op didn’t help!)

In hindsight was i really well enough to have the op? I’m not sure. It is a big deal. Don’t underestimate the emotional roller coaster ….am I glad I did it…HELL YES.

Message add me If u want to chat privately. Firstly you won’t have panic attack under a ga. Drugs are given to relax the body and you are helped to breathe through a ventilator. I do know of one girl who was given diazepam on the day by the hospital to help calm her. Maybe your doctor can prescribe you one. Also check of some counselling…..

    Good luck x

I’m also struggling with this. I have GAD and panic attacks and I’m freaking out about freaking out on the day! Daft I know but that’s anxiety for you! I’m having a tummy tuck as well as a BA and I’m bricking it! I’ve been advised to ask at pre-op if they can give me some diazepam for the night before so I can sleep – I might see if I can get some on the day too.

My PC said she is going to get me first on the list on the day of my op so I won’t have to be waiting around with my anxiety increasing so it’s worth asking yours if they can do the same for you?

I keep looking at quotes to help me – my favourite are “I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy, I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it” and “Punch fear in the face” lol, love that one! I’ve also been told that the week before I should just keep repeating “This time next week it’ll all be over!”

    Hope this helps xx

Thanks guys good to know I’m not the only one! I have like a dear I taking tablets so wouldn’t dares have a diazapan I don’t think I hate the feeling of not being in control don’t even drink!! It’s nuts!! I always think il end up dying in the op or after off a reaction to the meds! Crazy I know ha…it’s weird cause it’s all in your head but the brain is so powerful and to give u physical feelings and symptoms just proves it…aww I wanted a tummy tuck aswell at same time! Couldn’t afford I so going to save like mad and go back later on in year…bet u so excited for that be like a new woman!!…xx

I am excited but terrified. My abs are completely separated after my babies and no matter what I do I’ve always got the bulging tummy and it has gotten to the point where my back, ribs and stomach are constantly hurting because of the pressure, I’ve got no core stability so I’m looking forward to not being in constant pain – and obviously the lovely flat stomach and boobies are a bonus lol. We haven’t really got the money but it needs doing and my hubby spends god knows what on Snap On tools and fishing crap so I’ve gone through all our finances, cut out all non essential items and we should be ok with the loan repayments – eek!

I’m the same with feeling out of control, I’ve been offered numerous anti depressants and I never take them because I don’t like how they make me feel. I don’t like feeling dizzy (I hardly drink either) but I’m trying to weigh up what’s worse, the racing heart and panic or dizzy groggy feeling. I want to try to just get through it as painlessly as possible (wishful thinking I know lol). I keep telling myself that everyone is nervous, it’s not just me! Write down a list of all the positive reasons for having this done and look at it when you’re feeling nervous, that’s what I’ve been told to do! Xx
