Just read up on having drinking before having general…. Good news is they say 2 days before you mustn’t drink
How does my alcohol intake or drug use affect my anaesthetic?
Moderate intake of alcohol has not been shown to be detrimental to your health. It may in fact be helpful. Moderate is defined as 2-3 glasses 2-3 times per week for an adult male and 1-2 glasses 1-2 times per week for females. Drinking alcohol in excess of this quantity can lead to short and long term health problems, both of which must be taken into consideration when an anaesthetic is given. For your own health don’t drink in excess but you should at least not drink alcohol for two days prior to an anaesthetic. The effects of other drug use on anaesthesia are complicated and it is best, if possible, to avoid using them around the time of the anaesthetic. It is vital your anaesthetist knows about any drug and alcohol history.
I was told not to drink for 2 weeks before the op. The reason being that alcohol can and does thin your blood which can cause you to bleed out in surgery :/ scary. I’ve managed to not drink for the last week and have 4 days until my surgery so I’m sure it will be fine. (I like a glass of wine with tea…I’m not a serious drinker like I’ve made that sound lol) x
Ah right my op is on Tuesday and haven’t drank since Sunday so 9 days ,,,, was tempted to have a baileys tonight 🙁 xx
Achol thins your blood. This is the reason you cant drink. Could lead to a bleed during surgery x
Nurses tell you to not drink two weeks before the op and two weeks after because alcohol thins the blood and can lead to healing problems.
