Can someone please explain what the risks are for picking up children post surgery?

Is it about straining/hurting your back or is it actually a risk to the implants whilst they settle etc?

I have a baby (just turned one this week) and a 3 year old who obviously still wants occasionally picking up.

It’s going to be so hard to never pick them up for a whole 6 weeks so suppose although I will try to limit it I want to know what the actual risks are if I did do it occasionally is to get the baby in her car seat.

Is there a ‘best’ way to pick them up if I really have to?

My husband will be home all of the first week so definitely won’t be doing any lifting them. But thinking will have to after, especially the baby as will be home alone with them after that

Hey I have a 16 month old and also have these worries. My PC told me that in the first week it’s best to try not to do too much lifting. But to hold them on your side and also crouch down to their level when you pick them up x

I’m a week po and I have a very chunky 22month daughter I’ve had help this week but back in my own tomorrow doing the school run I’m teaching her to get in car seat on her own etc.. I spose u just have to find ways around it. But after 2 weeks I’m going to carry her again I think that’s as long as il be able to get by. I would also like to know about the risks nurse only said have help! X

I think your 3 year old will be fine an surely your 1 year old doesn’t weigh that much i think you’ll be fine holding her after the first week po x

I’m having partials so am expecting it might be difficult. My one year old is a bit of a chunk. Will literally have no choice but to lift her into highchair/bed/car seat. My eldest tecnhically doesnt need picking up so wil just need to be stricter about it. Will try and reduce it now perhaps so its not such a change for her/sudden.

I couldn’t pic my 3 year old up for the first week, but did around the two week mark and have done occasionally since.

I have to make sure I pick him up with two hands under his arms, I can’t swing him onto my side yet as I’m worried! Not sure if the risk, if it will damage the implant etc.

    I had partials xx

hi hun i had unders! as of 12 days PO i picked up my neice who is nearly 3! i just bent right down to her level got her comfy on my hip and then ‘squatted up’ to standing. I was able to lift her just with caution!
I can very easily lift and carry, pick up and put down to change / in bouncer/ on the floor my 4 month old niece 12 days PO. at 1 week PO i couldnt lift either, but the 4month old i could have placed in my arms then was comfortable carrying her!

its about listening to your body!xxx
