Over the past 6 weeks i have been on the Mya forum almost constantly reading about your experiences. Today, i can finally add my own and hope its helps others.
Before i start, i’ve read the good and negative reviews of Mya. I for one, have had a very positive experience with them thus far and today i found the staff at Mya Fitzroy very caring and considerate.
My admission time was 7.30 am and was gowned up almost immediatly – I saw the anaesthetist, surgeon and nurse one straight after the other and was at the Operating room door at 8.30am. I hopped up on to the table and the table was heated up around me (the operating room is freezing cold). All the staff were lovely introducing themselves and telling me what they were all doing around me. The anaesthetist popped the cannula in and was telling me that he was giving me a shot of antibiotics that i’ll start to feel spreading up my arm and then he would start putting in the GA. Well next thing i know i was waking up at 9.30 in recovery. I was having a pleasant dream and was a bit bummed out to be disturbed if honest and took me a while to realise where i was. I then started shivering quite badly but they quickly warmed me up with plenty of blankets and a warn blower.
Within half hour i was back in my room. I wouldn’t say i had any real pain, just a really stinging sensation where the incisions are. The nurses offered me pain relief and i had Taramadol ( 1/2 does ) and this certainly took the edge off. The weirdest thing i had was being able to focus on anything. I was so tired but me, being me didn’t want to give in. I also had a roomie to chat to 🙂 the lovely Nadia
The lovely helped me up to have my 1st wee… which was harder than i thought it would be, i was desperate to go but couldn’t. We tried running the tap etc but nothing worked, after about ten mins of trying the nurse went out and i was able to go – stage fright!
The Nurses diligently returned every 30 mins to do my Obs which were all fine. By 2pm i’d had my wee, tea and toast and i was told i’d be aloud to leave after drain removal. Now this i was worried about, she carefully peeled away the strapping and told me to continually take deep breaths, on every breath in she would pull the drain out. It didn’t hurt, it was an odd feeling, think someone explained it as like worms being pulled out as you can feel they are quite long and passing through your incision. It certainly wasn’t painful.
I’m home now after a tiring 3 hour journey across London ( only 13 miles). Dreading going to bed later and having to sleep upright but hoping ill be so exhausted by then it will be easy.
I was so scared this morning but I really cannot fault Mya today for their care today.
My PC, Rebecca has also been fabulous – when I’ve text and asked her to call me, she has within 45 mins. If i’ve emailed a query she has always come back. Sometimes its taken a day but i get the out of office and know she’ll respond at her next opportunity.
I can’t comment on the aftercare as i have only just had my Op, i just hope Mya does not let me down.
Any q’s please feel free to ask.
