Is sleeping upright important? Started by: Jess

I’ve had the worst time trying to sleep sitting up or on a slant! I’ve been awake until about 4/5am every night for the first 5 nights and then when I got to sleep I’d wake up once an hour for about 4 hours before admitting defeat and just getting up. Since day 6 though I’ve been fine lying down so I’ve slept on my back and my side. I’m currently 13 days post op.

Does it make a huge difference if I lie down or will I be okay? I’m back in work now and I start at 7am so not getting to sleep until after 4am is just impossible now ?

I never slept sitting up – wasn’t advised to (I’m not a mya patient). I just slept slightly raised with 2 pillows as it was not comfortable. So I don’t think it has any impact as every surgeon seems to have different preferences!

i saw my nurse today and mentioned that i keep waking up on my side because i am a massive twitcher and fidget bum in my sleep and she said to try to sleep at the 45 degree angle but I am very supported with my bra and band if i did slip onto my side. i am 7 days post op and find it easier to sleep slightly on my side but still on my back if you get what i mean? xx

Yeah Helen I get you, I’ve also been sleeping on my side but on my back sort of thing but I just didn’t try explaining because I couldn’t explain it haha! I’m the same as you most of the time though but usually wake up on my side. I’m 2 weeks post op today and my boobs haven’t even started dropping yet so not sure if this might be why ? xxx
