Hi girls! My op is on the 26th of October, can anyone give me a rough idea of everything I need as my PC hasn’t really mentioned much! I’ve ordered my macom, what else do I need? Xx
Hi Megan! I am also on 26th of October with Traynor.
I’m taking my macom,
v pillow (for the drive home),
lucozade for a boost after surgery,
boiled sweets for my throat (after intubation, hurts your throat)
Toothbrush (just in case I need to stay in)
Zip up hoodie for wearing home… You don’t want something you need to put over your head and probably a coat too cos it’s getting a tad cold now.
Something to read/watch to stop me getting bored and keeping my mind of waiting or pain
Ermmmmm I can’t think of anything else at the minute.
If anyone has any extra’s to add please do, I would like to know if I need anything else.
Hope that helps Megan, maybe we’ll meet on the day! Eagerly siting my admission time!
Xx
Btw I was told I need one macom for the day of surgery but because we have to wear them for 6 weeks I was advised to get another couple of bras to swap when one needs washing, so once I know my size I’m planning on getting a Matalan one cos it’s a high impact sports bra and only £10 and then maybe an M&S one too xx
Hiiiii chick!! Thank you, what does a v pillow look like?? My macom came today in the post!! I’ve seen on here someone getting some special shower gel, I’m not sure what that’s for though! Haha, I’m getting more nervous now! I had a nightmare last night about it!! Xx
I had my op on 12th October and I took my V pillow (my room only had one pillow and it wasn’t comfortable even before surgery!) and a cushion to sit on in the car to make me more comfortable and I put the v pillow between the new additions and the seatbelt to make sure they weren’t irritated by the seatbelt when breaking ect.
I also took my slippers and pj bottoms, they did ask me if I had brought my dressing gown to walk to theatre in because the gowns can gape a bit but I just held it shut at the sides.
Small bottles of water for after and some sugary drinks and some snacks. I made sure my iPad was fully charged and had some magazines.
I took some mints for the car journey home incase I felt sick and some soothers but I ended up not needing them.
I have 2 Macoms in different styles and the nurse put me in ultimate bra as it was a bit longer.
Make sure you have shoes that are easy to get on like short ugg boots or dolly shoes, because it’s awkward to bend and pull, especially for the first few days.
Hope this helps x

Megan this is the v pillow I got, it came with a few pillow case too and it’s really comfortable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002ALJC9W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_bWOaybAW5N4SQ
Yeah I also got Sanex 0%! I knew I missed something! Shower with it in the morning and then that’s what you can use when they say you can shower again after.
I got a V pillow from JD Williams but apparently Argos sell a good one for like £8. I’ve read so many comments of girls saying they wish they had one to help them sleep cos you have to sleep sat up. I’ve tried it recently because I pulled my neck and it reallllyyyy helps!!!
I was undecided about buying the Ultimate macom as well as the signature, I’ve just bought some Matalan sports bra’s online they’re cheap and look to be very similar to some of the M&S ones so I’ll see what they’re like when they arrive! (Had to guess a size and hope they fit or I’ll swap them)
I was nervous after my pre op but having had a virus and pulled my neck this week my mind has been elsewhere and I’m starting to become excited again rather then nervous! Let me know when you get your admission time xx
Thanks girls! I’ve not had my pre op yet it’s on Monday! Have you had a letter sent to your doctor yet, what cc are you getting and have you had you admission time yet? Xx
Hey KAYP will you let me know what the bras from Matalan are like? I will be purchasing one Macom but would prefer my others to be slightly cheaper given that it will do the same job as a Macom bra. I have my op on the 16th November. I am so excited! I am currently trying to find everything I need now so I am well prepared. Hows the pillow from Amazon?
I hear they don’t give you your admission time until 24-48 hours before your op :/ xx
I’m having 350cc HP unders. I rang MYA and they said they’d had everything they needed from my docs and all my Pre Op tests were good. I thought my GP would ask me for a fee but I’ve had no contact about it. No admission time yet I’m not holding my breath on finding out too soon haha.
Hi Jessica! Yeah of course I’ve ordered online so I hope they come this week! I’ll let you know xx
Ooh good! Just went for my pre op today, everything was good! I work in a hospital so I hope my tests come back clear otherwise I would be gutted if it had to be cancelled!!! xxx
Megan I work for community Physio for a hospital so I thought the same but I was clear! I’m sure you’ll be ok! X
Hi @jessicasbajourney the Matalan bra’s arrived and the high impact one is brilliant it feels like the MACOM (obviously I haven’t had the BA yet though) and the other pack of two have a seem through them that I wouldn’t be able to wear them during get first 6 months but they are nice for when I can wear them. The high impact bra is also a zip front and cost £10 I could only get it in pink though lol hope this helps xx
No have you? X
I got mine! 8am!!! I hope I’m in soon after that!! So excited now! X
Must say I’m glad I am early I’m not great if I don’t eat all day! X
