Does anyone know if you can have a contraceptive coil while having your op? I know you aren’t allowed to take the pill for a few weeks before but didn’t know the rules regarding the coil? I haven’t even had a consultation yet so haven’t been able to ask but im hoping to go ahead in the next few months and want to know about the coil before I get that fitted! Thank you! Xxx

Hey, I’m not too sure on the coil to be honest, but the reason you can’t be on the pill is only due to the pills link with blood clots. I’m pretty sure I’ve read girls who have the implant have had the op done with no problems, so if that’s the case a coil is probably ok too. I know that’s probably not much help and not the definite answer you’re looking for! X

Hi Katie, I’ve got my op next week and have the coil. It’s completely fine to keep it in and have it, you’ll just need to let the nurse know when you have your pre op but it’s only for the pill that you’d need to stop taking it 🙂 hope that helps x

I’m on the implant and the surgeon didn’t have a problem with that, I imagine the coil is similar x

Thank you for your replies! I’ve got my consultation tomorrow so I will double check but sounds like it won’t be a problem 🙂 xx
