Sorry I can’t be much help but I’m wondering the same thing. I live about 2 and a half hours away and I’m planning on coming home! Heard of lots of people who live further away going home after, but then I’ve also heard if you live further away it’s best to stay near so I’ll be interested to hear what people say. I would maybe ask your surgeon and see what he says. Xxx

Im having my op in Preston in 11 days which is about a 3 hour drive away. I’m staying in a hotel nearby (literally only a 2 min drive) it’s the ibis Preston north hotel.
I booked the hotel because I thought If anything was to happen I’m literally two minutes from the hospital so I can pop down rather than getting home and something happen. Mya charge around £400 extra for a overnight stay or you can just pay £35 and stay next door. That’s the way I looked at it xx

Your surgeon and everyone at MYA will advise you to be within one hours commute to the hospital in case of any complications during your first night.
I spoke with my PC and basically she said being further away won’t do you any harm should something happen but make sure you have someone on hand to take you back to hospital should you need to go.
I live 2 hours away and travelled home after my op and was fine. I looked into staying at a hotel but it would have cost me £200+ for me and my boyfriend as I was at the Fitzroy in London.
The recommendation is simply a safety precaution.

i would advise to stay in a hotel near, i stayed at mya over night im so glad i did , i dont think i would of been able to go home i was so drowsy for a few hours after my op and physically couldn’t lift myself up, but everyone’s different i suppose and depends if you have overs or unders i think overs are less painful xx

The car journey is a killer if you are far away, but 6 and 2 3’s cos if you go on the day or the next day you will still be uncomfortable. I stayed and was thankful I did because of the wait I had for surgery, if it had of been earlier I would have went home.

I’m booked in for a BA and a Uplift so I automatically have to stay over night in the Preston hospital. It’s all within the price I paid for that night but if I require any more for what ever reason I’d have to pay extra.

I stayed in the ibis in Preston too! So glad I did as the after pain is awful and you just want to rest! I’d advise taking a pillow to put between your chest and the seatbelt for the journey home too and avoid bumpy road where possible just to make it more comfortable xx

I’m Staying over on the 16th the night before just as I wont be worried about getting there on time as I live around 2 hours away, and if there is traffic and so on I dont want added stress.
And with it only been around £50 for one night stay for two of us! bargin
I will be driving there and my mums driving us home, Taking a pillow or two for the car to make sure im comfortable and cushioned and anything else to put me at ease for the journey home
