Hi girls, just need some advise if anyone is in the same situation as me. I have had two consultation and looking at booking my BA for September/October. I have the brca 2 gene which means I have a very high risk of getting breast cancer when I’m older as my nan, auntie and mum all had it. I have found out that it’s harder for mammograms to pick up cancer cells with BA. I was planning on getting unders but wondered if anyone had any problems or have any advice. My mum was very supportive of me before I told her this and now I need to find out more info! Thanks in advance xxx

I had a a mammogram before xmas due to finding lumps, all was well thankfully, and as far as I know not at high risk. But they did have trouble seeing anything though the mussel tissue due to it being to dense. So I had to have a aultra sound as well, with this I mind I also have to have unders there is no room for movement there. I will have to have regular check ups because I do suffer with random lumps. I have read on a NHS web site, it states it’s easer for them to scan with unders but you will have to tell them so they can make allowances for them. Me personally would prefer just to have the aultar sound any way and they seem to see better. Hope this helps just a little, x

    Hi Charlotte,
I’ve had to have two sets of mammograms in the past 3 years due to finding lumps in my breast & under arm area. The last time I had a mammogram I had to have ultrasound scans & biopsies too, all were carried out just fine with my implants & no damage was caused during the scans or biopsies – I specifically asked Mr Traynor to check if there was any damage when he removed my original implants. X

Hey babe, I also have this gene too and I was told that I could only go under the muscle because of this. Having them under the muscle eliminates hidden breast tissue behind tour implant, you can have mammograms as normal however you’ve got to tell the person who is doing them that you have implants as they will want to take a few more images!

Hi Shaunie, Thank you for letting me know and its nice to know someone else has this gene too! (not nice but you know what i mean) May I ask if you had to have any scans on your breasts before you BA? I’m worried that i am going to book then MYA ask for an ultra scan or mammogram before. xx
