Are there any massage therapists on this forum? i have my surgery booked for 13th June but im really worrying about going back to work. I am taking 3 weeks 2 days off but reading what others are saying im not sure if this is enough. im a sports massage therapist so everything i do is using my chest muscle, theres not really a way to avoid that. i really dont want to jeopardise my healing time but at the same time i am self employed so am not getting paid to be off 🙁 its really giving me second thoughts about getting it done if im being honest.

any advice from massage therapists would be highly appreciated
    thanks

    Hi Sophy,

I used to do massage so know what you mean. As you can probably tell everyone heals very differently and I image it’s for different reasons.

All I can say is how I’ve been, the first week i was on strong painkillers and couldn’t do anything without real pain all inside the boob and chest muscles, week two I can now do things around the house very gently and the pain is more just surface pain like sore nipples etc. I’m due back next Monday and dreading having to drive as I don’t think I can pull down on the wheel yet.

I’d say three weeks would be perfect and even with doing massage you may end up pushing your body weight into the movements a bit more rather than put all the strain on your under arm chest muscle. You may also be one of the lucky ones and have little or no pain at all.

Hope that’s of some help. Good luck with you op sweetie. Xx

ahh thank you @goldielox that makes me feel a lot better, yeah i have been practising using more body weight rather than moving my arms up and down. i guess only time will tell, if my body needs more time off then i will listen to it at the time 🙂 xx

@sophy123 Your welcome Hun. They say do nothing for six weeks (impossible) but your right you need to listen to your body & you will know what you are capable of & when.

For the first week my partner didn’t let me do a thing which was much needed, but sitting around can make you really stiff & ache which doesn’t help either lol!
This week I’ve been forced to get on with things now my partner is back at work, but I feel so much better for the little stretches as everything has eased up all over which has helped loads.

I’m sure you’ll be just fine. Xx
