It’s been 6 weeks yesterday since my surgery, I want to go back to lifting weights again to get my muscle back. What can and can’t I do ??

I’m really interested to know this – not had my op yet, it’s 1 Aug, and I’ll be wanting to get back into the gym and back to lifting as soon as I can. I’m thinking I’ll start with lower body and, when I do train chest, will start really light.
Did you have unders or overs? Did your surgeon give you any advice pre-op about training/training chest? Xx

I don’t have my op until June. But as far as I’m aware you need to start from scratch again and build yourself up. I know I won’t be as strong going back as I am now, so I’ll just have to start again lifting light and start working on my lower body first so I get used to it again. I really wouldn’t push yourself but I’m sure you’ll know what your body can handle xx

Hey lovely. Both my nurse and surgeon told me I need between 8-12 weeks out of weightlifting anything. And 6 weeks out of the gym completely.Absolutely dreading it. My surgery is in 4 weeks and the thought of not being able to go to the gym for 6 weeks is driving me mad. But it’s only temporary. New lovely boobs is forever and anytime out of the gym is so worth that xx

I am 15 weeks post op i think , had my ope mid jan.
I’m a personal trainer, as well as working in a gym so the demand to feel like i look good is 10 times more and i booked a holiday 2 weeks after my op

I start back in the gym soon as my dressing were off(didnt wanna sweat making them smell) i did light cardio because my stiches were also out.
3-6 weeks mainly legs and light cardio body weight stuff
After 4 weeks honestly i was doing very light dumbell shoulder press (4kg) i did this for several weeks and also no weights just at home learning to contract my muscle again because suprisingly you use your chest muscles alot more than you think

6-8 weeks i slowly built up my strength im not back in the gym and running again (two sports bras needed)

Just do it all at your own pace one week i remember hanging from a bar (insicions all healed) and it felt odd same with lat pull down it felt odd
This maybe more because mine are under my muscle . I forget majority of the time and then i go to lay on a bench face down and realise i cant and isnt comfy.

Just go with what you think and know to slowly build yourself back up!

I went back to the gym 1 week post op! For the first couple of weeks I only did legs and cardio (up hill walk on treadmill and stair master). I’m now 5 weeks post op and can also do arms, shoulders and back with free weights… don’t think I will do chest again. My friend is 2 years post op and still can’t train chest!

Im a bodybuilder and powerlifter so this is KILLING ME!! i was told no lifting at all 6 weeks. but can walk now im almost 2 weeks post op once the pain went….. I was wondering if a static bike just low intensity would be ok, surely thats less strenuous on my boobs than walking????

I’m 4.5 weeks post op and it’s seriously killing me not going the gym! I feel like I’ve lost so much muscle tone 🙁 I go on holiday in 5 weeks! The nurse said I could maybe start with lower body exercises now … but no weights or squats?
So I asked if I could do things like the bike, stair master or cross trainer and just hold the handles … she said no.
    Soooo what can I do?!
Mine are under the muscle too, I don’t want to risk upsetting the healing process … but I seriously need exercise!!

I feel like moderate weights fornlegs/ glutes and light cardio would be fine? You know your own body but is it wrong to go against the nurses advice because of that? Ahhh!!

Hey girls I was told I could go back to the gym at 6 weeks post op. At my 6WPO appt he told me I could do pretty much everything at the gym apart from chest, which I can’t do until 3 months post op. He also said to try to do isolated upper body work to avoid using your chest muscles xxx

Not being able to do my weights is killing me I had such a good routine before my OP now I feel like iv lost it all and feel horrible 🙁 I’m nearly 5 weeks post op and doing squats with no weights and running machine. I was doing a lot of heavy weight training before and I can’t see me being able to do that anytime soon :(( xx

Hey girls , I am too worried about losing all my muscle tone for being out of the game after surgery! I’ve been working hard to build a bum and decent legs and really don’t want to lose what I’ve got. A full 6 weeks is gonna bring me back to basics while I’m quite intense at the minute. Pre op nurse said no squats even till after the 6 weeks checks. My pt isn’t thrilled either he is sure il only need two weeks however he isn’t expertised in breast surgery and the last thing I want to do is jeapordise my girls after waiting so long to get them hahahah. On the bright side we know we can retrain our bodies at that point so all is not lost xx

thank you so much! went today and did a back day which was the best, didn’t feel right tho with my chest pressed up against the back row so I avoided that one but apart from that was amazing to be back xx

I started going back to the gym just doing the bike but on a higher level to start trying to gain any form of what leg muscle I had left! 5 weeks in I started training legs again xx

I started doing walking and low intensity bike at 4 weeks in, I went for my 6 weeks check up and everything was great! The main reason they say no to cardio is because of the sweat that builds up near the incisions which can be higher risk (for infection/complications) to the area when they haven’t healed properly xx

Hey girls! I went back at 3WPO to do light cardio and then from 5WPO I was doing lower body weights so only stuff like leg extensions & abductor machine. 6WPO I was back to doing upper and lower but only 75% of the weight I was doing before. Now 10WPO and I’m squatting 60kg and deadlifting 70kg again!! No chest until 3 months as told by my nurse though. If anyone has any questions just message me 🙂

I had partials! And it hasn’t felt weird doing any exercises at the gym either 🙂

Hey girls! So I went back the gym on weds (5WPO) and just eased myself in slightly … did some cardio on the cross trainer and stepper but was careful only to bring my legs into it! Then I did some meg weights, kick backs, adductor machines etc and some dead lifts. I was only holding to 5kgs so did higher reps whilst my mate stood there with a 50kg bar ha! Felt ashamed but it was better than nothing 🙂 I felt completely fine after it tbh! Going to go again tonight and do something similar 🙂

Not sure about back exercises though, anyone got any advice? Feel like lay pulls downs and rows might be too much? Xx
