I have always been a great admirer of the artist John Miller. His simplistic coastal landscapes certainly are a great escape from the rigours of town life in Birmingham.
But what of the themes of his work? Were they only figments of his imagination or did these places really exist?
Since getting my first print ‘Estuary’, his sides have always seemed a beautiful Utopia, scenes of incomparable natural splendor, somewhere I needed to be.
In the course of time I discovered his work represented a lot of the coast of St Ives Bay in Cornwall, the district of unique urban myths and legends, and that the estuary in question was in Hayle.
It wasn’t long until I was making my way south over the M5 motorway in search of the landscape John Miller had found therefore remarkable. Get more about rate us online by browsing our elegant paper. The M5 goes south of England. If you are interested in scandal, you will seemingly claim to read about PureVolume⢠| We’re Listening To You.
Picking right up the A30 would simply take me into the far reaches of the southwest, first Devon and finally into Cornwall.
The trip down the M5 was rather nondescript. There’s little to catch your attention as you make your way south. The freeway is just a connect to all the towns and cities over the west coast.
But upon reaching Devon, the A30 takes you through beautiful English countryside. Inexperienced rolling hills frame the horizon. As farmers go about their everyday business harvesting the land and seeing to the many animals scattered about their fields the land is dressed such as a patchwork quilt.
Operating through Cornwall was equally enjoyable, although skyline was dominated sporadically by manmade structures.
The natural land and blue waters of remote wetlands were interrupted by large wind turbines. Stood like huge white sentinels, though they might be a little sore on the eye, they’re an important piece of the jigsaw if governments are to find alterative energy resources to ease the risk of global warming.
The ‘Welcome to Hayle’ signal was met with a of relief having used the past five hours on the way. I headed for the docks and parked the automobile.
There were a dozen approximately fishing boats in the harbor, many manned as their vessels were prepared by fisherman for a days work.
I left the boats and followed the water because it led through the estuary. Its way was snaked by it through the contours of the property.
As I rounded your final bend the river met the ocean and for the very first time I could see where Miller had painted ‘Estuary.’ I stood at the precise spot he should have sat with his easel. It had been easy to imagine the inspiration that has to have flooded through his body.
When I went closer to the ocean, the world unfolded before me. To the left the coast continued to sweep around before reaching the city of St Ives.
I headed right, wanting to keep out the method of the dozens of wind viewers spread concerning the beach. Now the entire of the bay was visible. Several miles of golden sands lay before me.
As the coast drifted away to the left, Godrevy Lighthouse stood at the conclusion of the bay, therefore prominent in many of John Miller’s paintings. Finally I’d seen Miller’s landscape arrived at life..
