Doctor King was a Southern Baptist Minister and co-pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, but h-e probably would not have understood what I’m referring to here. I remember one elderly pastor who addressing the congregation one Sunday morning said, ‘I know you, and I know you didn’t get righteous nor did you get holy… You simply got old.’ Yet another preacher said, ‘a number of you’re therefore heavenly minded that you are of no earthly use.’ Since I am a senior citizen and a product of the First Self Righteous Church I understand both responses, and both are right.
