Hi girls, had my 14 day post op check up yesterday and the nurse told me a few things, most of which I have forgotten already because my memory is rubbish and I wish they would just give you a piece of paper with the ‘rules’ on! ? Anyway she removed my dressings and then said I still can’t have a full shower for 5 days but to let my incisions breathe and don’t use any products on my chest, but then she said about patting dry under my boobs which would suggest they would need to be wet in order to dry them?? ?I’m well confused, can anyone help and tell me what you were told please?? Thank you ? xx

It depends on your incisions, i couldnt have my dressings off until 16days then she said i could shower but dont use any product around the area at first then when i do i was to use non perfumed products, maybe she was just telling you about patting them dry for when you can shower in 5 days time? I would just ring her and double check x

Yes probably best if I give her a ring and ask. At my first check up I saw a different nurse though and she said my incisions were healing really well and looked tidy so I went into the checkup yesterday expecting to be told I could have a shower now. Gutted I’ve got to wait ? It’s for the best though I suppose, wouldn’t want anything to happen to my incisions/scars because I did something silly in the early days x

Have you got dissolvable stitches or the ones they take out for you? Xx

I’ve got dissolveable ones. Maybe that’s why? Not sure how long they take to go. Xx

Id give her a quick call to clarify Mel. Are you going back to see her in 5 days? If not I can only assume that she was telling you what to do in advance, for in 5 days when you can shower. Short showers, not too hot, unperfumed soap (Simple or Sanex) don’t touch the incisions directly. Clean towel each time and pat dry the incisions then leave to air dry for a few minutes before you get dressed.
I had dissolvable stiches I think most people do, but Dr Andrea loops them at the end and you have to have this snipped off at your 2 week check. xx

I had dissolvable stitches, i had all my dressings removed 1 week Po an could fully shower aswell. My stitches disolved within 2 weeks but the knots on the end of each boob tooo 6 weeks to dissolve. You’re going to feel like you’re in heaven when you have a nice proper shower!! Xx

Thanks all for your replies, I checked with the nurse and she said the 5 extra days is recommended but I could have a shower in 3 days if I wanted and just to be really careful not to touch my incisions and make sure they are really dry afterwards. I decided to follow her original advice and wait for the 5 days, which is only Tuesday, so not that bad. The weather has changed too so it’s not like I’m sweating now because it’s gone really miserable outside! ? Currently still showering from the waist down and wiping my underarms with a moist soapy flannel. Paranoid that I smell though! ?
