1st consultation done, Is it normal to go home straight away?

Hello all,
I had my first consultation on Saturday and I am booked in to meet the surgeon on 2nd July (the one that does Doncaster). I felt extremely comfortable when I met with the consultant and left feeling optimistic and excited. I have spoken to a few people who had the op done through hospitals like Bupa or Nuffield, they said that after the surgery you have drains in and you cant leave until the liquid runs clear or vice versa. With MYA you go home afterwards and they found this strange. I just want to know peoples thoughts on this and to put me at ease a little bit. I do feel confident that MYA are a good company and know what they are doing, but if other places have you staying overnight then shouldn’t they all be the same.
This would be with a local anaesthetic.

Its very normal to just be a day case and so long as your no more than 50mile away from your hospital its perfectly fine to go home, you will need a night in a hotel nearby if your more than 50miles away.
The only reason you would stay in is if you have any underlined health problems that would require you to stay in, I have never heard on this forum of anyone that has had to stay in xxx

Different surgeons use different techniques as well. I had Mr Singh and he doesn’t use drains just strapping. I was a day case and was able to leave as soon as the nurse felt I was fit enough ie. eating and drinking and being able to hold it down, going to the toilet successfully etc. xx

I had Mr Kazzazi who is the Doncaster surgeon. Firstly, the local anesthetic with sedation worries a lot of people but honestly it’s great (& I’m a massive wimp/was my first operation ever). They’d only leave drains in and keep you longer if it became necessary. But basically I went in for my op, woke up back in my private room, was brought food and drink and once I felt up to it I went home! There’s 24/7 access to a nurse on the phone but I had no problems. Ask Mr Kazazzi about the drains, but if anything I was relieved to not have to have them as I’m squeamish. Feel free to message me if you have any questions xx

Also from speaking to people of instagram, literally every surgeon seems to have their own way of doing things which surprised me, coz yea you’d think there’d be one set way! Like a lot of American companies don’t make you wear strapping/sports bra’s or anything. MYA ask you to stay within an hours drive of the hospital on the first night post-op but that’s all. xx
