Well yesterday started off so good, but my boobs got sorer as the day went on and stupidly i didn’t take enough pain killers because I didn’t think I needed them. by late afternoon they felt very full, heavy, stretched and mega itchy. The bruising was getting darker and my sternum was swollen with fluid, I was starting to worry that this amount of bruising is not normal, but I did not have severe pain, just a constant feeling of being full and heavy.
I re-started taking all my meds properly, used loads of ice packs and arnica and slept well again (back-rest from argos is indispensable)
i have woken up today feeling good again, no pain. My hubby washed and scrunched my hair this morning so I don’t feel grotty. Over all day 3 is going well, I am going out for coffee and a walk because I am going stare crazy being in the house and I need to walk about a bit.
My bruising has gone black,, swelling of sternum has gone down a bit and I don’t feel sore, but I am sure the medication has helped with this, I am taking paracetamol and ibuprofen plus antibiotics.
Does anyone else have this amount of bruising or any of the girls further down the recovery line remember this bruising and swelling, how long can I expect it to last? Also the incisions are REALLY itchy! My boobs feel so heavy today, especially underneath, I’m not in pain even though the bruises look really bad.
Please share your experience of bruising and swelling, it really helps to read other peoples experience.
Hi Becki you look very similar to what I did, I only have a pic from 1 week post op as couldn’t see it before then but I’d say it’s totally normal. My left boob was agony for about 10 days from the bruising and even now it’s still tender down the sides of it. I think it just affects everyone differently. I don’t usually bruise that bad so was surprised when I saw it all! Glad your feeling a bit better today 🙂 xx
ah thanks so much Danielle for posting that pic, it does look very similar to me. Last night when I unzipped my bra and saw how swollen my sternum looked and I could see it was fluid I felt a bit worried, I googled swollen sternum after BA and horrendeous images came up of tenting and uni-boobs, things I didn’t even know about, really freaked me out!! I was like “calm down girl, its only a bit of swelling and bruising hopefully this is normal” I looked on this forum and couldn’t see that many images of swollen bruised boobs, I think when I look for something I can never find it, but I read everyones stories most days and know that loads of girls have shared their experiences of recovery.
It’s different before the op when we read about girls recovery to after the op when we are panicing about things we know we have been warned will happen. I have to keep reminding my self to stay calm, be patient, each day will get easier.
The best thing is that although there is a lot of discomfort, its not really as bad a I thought it would be, I think overs are meant to be a bit easier to recover from so I am really feeling for my girlies on here who have had unders. Recovery is scary because we want everything to go very smoothly.
its now day 5 post op and the bruising is really bad, but not that sore, swelling definitley going down. So although the bruising looks really bad, I’m not really in any pain. I’m still taking all my pain killers though, just in case. I don’t know if its normal to have this amount of bruising, I think some girls do and some girls don’t. I am looking forward to my post op check up just so the nurse can look and reassure me that everything is okay.
my incisions are not nearly as itchy today bonus!!
