A long road to the end

Hi girls. Some of you may have read my previous post about this process being a dramatic roller coaster. I haven’t yet uploaded a picture of what Icurrently look like but have finally come to terms with the fact that it’s not the finished product and its temporary.

For those of you who don’t know, I had my surgery on 15th July and 5 weeks into recovery it became a nightmare. After healing very well, suddenly one of my incisions was badly infected and the implant needed REMOVING. I was heartbroken. It can’t go back in for three months and until then I’m using padded cups to even out the look. Let’s be honest. It sucks.

This post isn’t to worry others, what happened to me was very rare (I’m ‘lucky’ my fiancé keeps telling me!), but more just to be so appreciative if you’re healing well. Don’t forget you’ve had an operation and you need to take it easy, even if you seem fine.

I’m going to get my perfect boobs I just have to wait for them both. I am going to be so unbelievably relived when that happens. Until then, I’m super happy with the one I have got and I’m lucky to have such a supportive family and fiancé to get me through this shitty time.

Hi Emily, I had no symptoms. I was healing perfectly. At four and a half weeks I went on a weekend away to Birmingham and in the car I felt that I’d knocked the scab on the incision. My fiancé checked it immediately and just said I’d knocked off the scab but it looked fine. 3 hours later it was very angry, red and oozing plasma to the point my dress had a wet patch and once I dressed it, it needed changing twice a day at least. Then it became infected (I think that was the point it did anyway) and the doctors found that I had a seroma (build up of fluid around the implant). As I wasn’t responding to antibiotics and the incision was opening, becoming deeper and the fluid inside had become infected the decision was made that it had to be removed for my own safety. This all happened within 5days. As horrific as it is, it is rare so you shouldn’t worry but it’s just important for others to know that with any surgery there can be and unfortunately sometimes are complications. We know that when we sign the consent form but I don’t think we really appreciate that things can unfortunately go wrong. So far MYA have been good at helping sort out the problem.
