Hi everyone,
Having my surgery on Sunday, and one minute I’m excited and don’t feel anxious, the next my mind is just in over drive 🙁 I am so worried about the surgery and it’s the ‘sedation’ part that is worrying me the most! I keep thinking what If I start having a panic attack when they’re injecting whatever it is they inject you with.. I’m looking too far into things but its my nerves getting the better of me.. I just wondered how people felt right before they were being put to sleep or for the girls who had Mr Kazzazi (who im having myself) how did it feel with the sedation? I think Ive asked before but like I say my heads all over! I would actually prefer to just have local and no sedation at all but don’t know if they would allow that. Sorry to sound so down about things xx
Hey, I know its really strange but I actually quite enjoy the GA – I am not a great sleeper naturally so for me its a great feeling. Honestly there is nothing to worry about. It will be like 3 seconds and you will be asleep – next thing you are waking up. Not sure about the sedation though as never had it. Good luck with your op! xx
Hey Karina, I have heard a few people say that too. I’m a big fan of sleep too but I’m also a worrier so don’t get much sleep because I’m always worrying about something haha. I know sedation is supposed to be good for anxiety so even if I do start panicking it should hopefully calm me down. I’m just fearing the unknown.. I had GA about 16 years ago but don’t remember much just remember waking up feeling confused. My boyfriend keeps telling me not to think about it but I like to know what to expect so been reading up that much on it that I probably could do it myself haha. Thanks anyway xx
I had local sedation with kazzazi last week and I was exactly the same but rest assure it really is nothing to worry about I would chose local over general any day but that’s just preference, you won’t remember a thing when you come round good luck you will be fine xxx
I was worried about having a panic attack but because they inject you straight away with the sedative, you feel really chilled out and relaxed from the start! So much better than general anesthetic. You will be fine xxx
Hi Lilli, thanks for the reply. How did you feel once they put the sedative in? Like did you go dizzy or anything? And how long was you in theatre for? Sorry the questions haha xxx
Thanks Jane, I know you’ve commented on one of my posts before and I probably asked the same then. I’m such a worrier and worry myself to death. So will they inject me with the sedative once im in the operating room? xx
Yeah, as soon as you go in, you lie down on the bed and the canular and sedative are put straight in. The anesthetist at Doncaster is so nice , he was really smiley and sweet!! You don’t have a chance to be nervous or anxious Hun and I’m normally terrible for anxiety!!! Xx
I agree with jane ! The anaesthetist was lovely and literally as soon as the sedative is released into you, you immediately are totally chilled it’s a nice feeling, I’m a very anxious person and suffered with panic attacks for years , you will be absolutely fine, I didn’t go dizzy or feel sick or anything I just fell asleep, I was in theatre 50 minutes ! Went in at 3pm and was eating toast by 4pm and didn’t feel groggy at all like you would with a general xx
Thanks so much for all your reassurance. I know in the back of my mind I will be ok but its the ‘what ifs’.. I suffer from general anxiety disorder. I would rather know what is happening and what to expect than to go in and not know so really appreciate your help. This time in 2 days it will be over with. Thanks so much again x
@jessica I’ve had my surgery with Kazzazi today with sedation and was exactly the same. They take you into theatre and put the cannula in, then they say they’re giving you something to relax you and you’re off to sleep 🙂
I woke up once it was done (I was a bit panicky because you forget where you are!!) then I can’t even remember if they wheel you back to bed or you walk! I was so out of it. (Just asked my mum and she said I got into a wheelchair and wheeled back to the room haha)
Spent the next couple of hours dozing, having some toast and tea!
You’ll be totally fine, it’s basically like a GA, you don’t remember anything! x
Your be ok you sound exactly like me I suffered bad at one point with anxiety and panic attacks not as bad now but I still get it especially when I’m stressed all the best try not to think about it to much I’ve got another 2 wks till mine all the best for Sat x
I suffer with really bad anxiety too and panic attacks. When do I have to let the company know this ? As I am you worried. Xxx
Too*
Im petrified of needles!! My op is 17th November
Dont know where the rest of my message has gone.. But I’ll carry on lol.. Do u get sedation and GA? Also where does the needle go? Hand or arm? Please say arm lol
Hey hun I was exactly the same. The night before I did not sleep at all because I was so worried that either I would not wake up or would wake up during surgery and not be able to talk but feel everything lol. I was actually convinced that was going to happenlol! I have really bad anixety-I am on sleeping pills just to get some sleep everynight because I am the biggest worrier! As soon as I arrived in the hospital I asked if they could give me some valium because i was so worried lol. I know this is going to sound crazy but I actually enjoyed the anaesthetic. You dont even count to five before you nod off and you dont even remeber it. Before you know it your waking up in recovery and feel great! I actually miss the build up and the whole experience and would do it again tommrow without thinking twice. You are going to be so much more confident after that it really is nothing. If anything just enjoy it and be excited!
@Laura I am also a big woss when it comes to needles lol. They literally stick a tiny little thing in your hand and honestly it does not hurt at all just stings a little but before you can even feel it your out! Next thing your waking up in recovery lol
Good luck girls you will all be fine
xxx
I just told my surgeon when I met him that I get anxiety and he was fine about it. That’s what the sedative is for, to relax you and stop you being anxious. Don’t over think it girlies and you will all be fine!!!! Promise! Xx
I also get very anxious before ops. I might try ask for a tranquilizer before hand to calm me down. They’ve given me this before in the past when I had to have my knee op but not sure if they’ll do it at mya. However once the sedation goes in you’ll all of a sudden feel extreme calmness and almost like a high feeling (to be honest wish I could feel like that more often lol) so yeah that bit is amazing and the next thing you know ur asleep. I understand ur nerves mines on Monday-we will be fine don’t worry!! X
Soo it goes in ur hand
Thanks so much everyone. The support on here is great and its nice to know that I’m not the only one with this worry! I do worry about coming around and not knowing where I am as the littlest of things especially anything todo with me thinking I’m losing my mind will set me off panicking. I just keep thinking this time tomorrow il hopefully have had it done and not chickened out! xx
