This may sound crazy…..but has anyone opted for a local anaesthetic and sedation instead of the full general anaesthetic?? ???? I want the easiest recovery possible (I have small children) and I have always suffered with terrible nausea and vomiting (for 1-2 weeks) following previous general anaesthetics, although this was probably 8 years ago now! Just wondered if anyone else had opted for this or if anyone else doesn’t react well to general anaesthetics.
Also if any mums with young children have had the procedure, I’d love any reassurance or advice you may have. Xx
I have a nearly 3 year old and had my op yesterday. He is with my mum for a few days now but I’ll keep you updated how it goes when he’s back home. There’s no chance in hell I would be brave enough for a local anaesthetic you’re crazy haha!! Anaesthetic was fine I just felt very drowsy yesterday but could have been due to the morphine I had for pain. Good luck with whatever you decide however I don’t think it’s an option to have the procedure under local anaesthetic but I could be wrong. Xxx
They will give you anti sickness meds at the time they put you under if you tell them it makes you sick after. My nurse confirmed this as I have the same reaction. X
Hi gerda, congrats on your surgery, yes please keep me posted regarding your little boy when he comes home, that’s great you have A few quiet days without him. . I have been told by mya and the hospital group that I can have a local and sedation but I will discuss this with the surgeon as to what I end up doing. I had anti sickness after surgery Laura but was still really sick for over a week after I was discharged ???? I would rather be out cold and know that I’m not going to know a thing about it, but the recovery with two small children is going to be challenging enough already without adding horrendous sickness to the mix ???? Hopefully the surgeon will help me make a decision x
Mr kazzazi does local. It’s called twilight sedation, your still asleep basically so it’s good and less side effects when you wake up xx
I had mr kazzazi and the local anaesthetic, its so good, I would choose it over general anyday, when I woke up from surgery I was absolutely fine, I didn’t even feel sick. I came out of surgery at 3 and I was discharged at 4, so so worth it, I had no side effects at all when I came round xx
To be fair when I had vaser lipo I had local and sedation and I don’t remember a bloody thing! I was very drowsy after, I think if it affects you I won’t matter which one you have, that’s why I’m not going to get worked up and just go with general and anti sickness as they’ve advised. Xx
Hi I had twilight sedation 10 yrs ago for my original op & I was still so sick!! Had my reaugmentation a few weeks ago, I was really worried about the general anaesthetic but the anti sickness meds did their job and I felt great when I woke up x x Just be sure to tell them you get really sick from anaesthetics x x x
After surgery i was really bad, i threw up or felt like (was out of it) and they stabbed me bloody needle because anti sickness tablet didn’t work or something! I also was throwing up for few days after! this was my first ever operation and everyone reacts differently! – not trying to scare you! x x x
Thank you everyone!! Everyone really is different, I guess I’ll just have to see what surgeon suggests. I’ve just realised today that they don’t operate in Cardiff do they?! Just a clinic ????
I had local anaesthetic and sedation and it was AMAZING. I much preferred it to a general. I had zero sickness with it (I felt really ill after a general). I just had a cannula in my hand with 2 syringe drivers attached one of propofol to sedate and one of fentanyl pain killer. The anaesthetist could then adjust how much was going in, in response to how aware I was and my pain. I remember the surgeon injecting local into my left boob and then the next thing I was in recovery. Didn’t feel a thing and don’t remember a thing either 🙂 xx
Thank you so much Zara. I’ve had a sedation before, and just Ike you, I don’t remember a thing!! I just don’t want to feel ill for weeks like I did after the generals I’ve had previously ???? Hoping they’ll be happy to do it that way!
