    Hi guys,

So I had my consultation yesterday with my PC Kayleigh at the Birmingham clinic. She was great – it was really informative and she just affirmed by decision to have a breast augmentation (I’ve wanted one since I was 16 – I’m now 22)

Unfortunately, I lost my Nan last year to cancer and was put on anti depressants 1 month ago. Obviously I was up front about this in my consultation, but it means I can’t have my surgery for another 5 months which has left me gutted because I’m not stable on the same dose for 6 months.

Has anyone else had the same experience?

So gutted – I lost someone v close to me and have all the reason to be sad about it!

    Hi Alice,

    Sorry to hear this! X
Why aren’t you allowed surgery for another 5 months?
I’ve been on anti depressants for a few years and I’m 22.. there was no problems with me having my op whilst taking my medication x

If you take any sort of medication, you have to be on it and stable on it for atleast 6 months. It’s just there policy xx

Hi. See if you can get a letter from my doctor to confirm that it was okay and I was in a ‘fit’ state because they have to be careful. See if there’s anything you can do with your doctor and ask your pc.

@alicecrossley Hi Alice, you have to be either on or off anti-depressant medication for at least six months before your surgery date. I really think it’s best to just conform to this, it’s MYA’s policy and they’re pretty strict about it.
Six months will fly over, it’s a big operation and a lot of money, so it’s really worth the wait to ensure you’re fit for surgery. The clinic has a responsibility to ensure you’re stable enough and emotionally-prepared to go ahead with a life-changing decisions (of course YOU know that you are!) but they have to take a blanket approach to these issues.
Why not book your surgery for five months time, keep on these forums chatting to us, and use that time to make absolutely sure what size/shape/profile you want to achieve?? It’s exciting!! Enjoy the journey! There’s no need to rush ahead with surgery.
    Good luck honey xxx

Hannah, who did you have as your PC and surgeon? X

The reason @nataliehulston94 was able to have her surgery was because she was on the medication consistently for longer than six months (i.e. a couple of years). I’m the same, I have been on anti-depressants for a couple of years and don’t have a problem.
If you started taking them recently, you have to be on them for at least six months prior to surgery, if that makes sense! Xxx

That makes sense! Just so gutting! My PC still hasn’t got back to me regarding a surgeon consultation, so desperate ???? I’m so excited! Xxx

To be honest I’m on medication for PMS, not depression so it’s probably not the same category.

I just had to prove it wasn’t due to mental health from the doctor. It’s worth asking the question to you PC to see if the doctors approval might make a difference.

It’s hard when you’re desperate to get them 🙁 it will be worth the wait x

@alicecrossley it’s a nightmare isn’t it! I am so impatient and excited too, my surgery isn’t until December anyway (extra saving time!!), so I’m trying to think of that positively, in that I have lots more time to do research and be absolutely SURE which surgeon, size and shape I want to go for!
I had a six day wait from my initial PC consultation until I could confirm a date with my surgeon aswell – I was bouncing off the walls haha! Your PC is probably trying to move things around and squeeze you in asap :).

Ahh I actually didn’t know you had to be on medication for a certain amount of time before you had an operation..

I didn’t go with MYA babe I actually went with spire in Manchester.. but good luck with everything it’s worth the wait get yourself stable and on the right track and then you’ll have boobies 🙂 xx
