Hi ladies,
I came across another post about not being able to have surgery if you have been on/off antidepressants for less than six months and now I am starting to panic.
I was prescribed antidepressants in September last year, I have Fibromyalgia, all prescribed painkillers had been unble to control my flares and as a last resort the doctor thought these may be worth a try as they have helped others before. I took them for a couple of days but they were awful so put them in the drawer and left them there. Because of this I didn’t feel it was necessary to declare on MYAs pre op paper work. I would have done if I was aware that they held any relevance in whether or not the op could go ahead.
The medical health summary has been sent and I have not had a phone call yet to say my op has been cancelled, it’s supposed to be 1st Feb. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? Or know whether because they were prescribed for Fibro and not depression it won’t affect the surgery? I’m tempted to call them but don’t want to alert them to a problem if there is a tiny chance it has been overlooked!
Sorry for essay! X
@littleladyx Hiya, I’m exactly the same. Can I ask wether you have had your appointment with the surgeon? As I have mine Friday. Did he not look at your medical forms, because I haven’t declared it either but most people have been telling me that they will see it and not allow it unless you are 6 months on/off. Such a pain isn’t it as I was hoping for surgery mid Feb. I’m hoping I can !! Let me know how it goes x
You best of ringing as double checking Hun and mya policy is on or off them for at least 6 months and would of depend on what’s on your medical notes that have been sent over they has been people that have had there op cancelled last min over things like this since I’ve besn on this forum xxx
@emamberjadex Hey, yeah I had my appointment with the surgeon on 19th Dec, general health summary wasn’t requested until after my pre op which was on the 22nd but if he has your medical forms l guess he will look.
It is so frustrating and I’m not sure what reason they could give for postponing, can’t use “mental instabilities” to deny me the op as the anti depressants were prescribed to help treat Fibro, not depression. Will let you know how it goes xx
Thanks @staceymlx I know I should but I’m just not looking forward to what they’re goung to say lol xx
Aww I wouldn’t be either but it be better to find out now then on the day or day befor xxx
Unfortunately you’re right lol I’ve given them a call, been told my PC will give me a call when she’s free so now I’ve just got to wait xx
Well I hope it all works out for you Hun and hopefully they let you go ahead xxx
Hi, I know this is late now but I was prescribed anxiety tablets for a driving test lol! I was told to ask my doctor for a note on why I was prescribed this and that it hasn’t been since (was just over six months at the time of my consultation). If you speak to your patient cordinator about it they will give you the best advice, I think they just prefer you to be on it rather than on and off it x
