Any BA ladies who work at the hospital?

Hi girls!
In need of some advice for those who work at the hospital/NHS. I’m a HCA but that’s bank so I have no worry taking time off etc if I need it (my only issue is I won’t get paid.) However I also have another roll, I’m very curious to see if anyone else has had surgery and works in hospital and had no issues?
I just wondered if I could get away with not actually telling anyone I’m having a BA, as the first reaction to that is not normally nice and I’d like it to be private etc. Do I have to tell occupational health about what surgery I’m having? Or can I just give them a sick note signed by my surgeon and that be that?
I really don’t want to be discussing the surgery to strangers (although you guys understand haha)…

Hi I’m bank and no I didn’t tell work. I just went back when I felt ready which was about 3 weeks, but will say I felt fine about 3/4 days post op. But when I got to work moving patients was hard! So then left it another week before booking more shifts, before ba I didn’t realise how much you actually used your chest muscles! And although I was ok in myself 3 weeks was too early. I didn’t give in a sick note as in my hospital bank don’t get sick pay anyway. Xx

I completely agree with Marie! I took 3 weeks off work (palliative care) and I was surprised how much I ached after a long day, but got used to it after a few shifts just make sure you wear a really supportive bra. No you don’t have to tell them at all it’s entirely your choice, I work with all women so I was happy to tell them and my managers were great making sure I wasn’t seeing patients that were too heavy xx

Hey thanks for you reply! We don’t get paid for sick on bank in h hospital either and I know I don’t have to tell anyone with that job, it’s my domestic job I was worried about. If I take sick leave I’m wondering if occy health will ask questions!!
