Any carers on here who have had a ba? If so how long was it before you went back to work and how did you get on as not the easiest of jobs after a ba!!
Hi.
Im a hca.
I went back around 2.5 weeks post op. I work 12 hr shifts and do a lot of nights. . I found it fine. But i havent used a slide sheet as yet. I suppose it depends how heavy your work load is? If it involves a lot of manual handling you’ll have to be cautious. Hope that helps. X
Thankyou. Im currently a week and 3 days post op. Im due back tuesday. I haven’t attempted driving yet which I need to cause i wont be able to work at all without driving. I take a little longer to get better cause im diabetic which is also annoying. I don’t really use slide sheets with my calls, i do have few hoists which worries me.. Xx
im a student nurse and only have one week off – I’m on a surgical ward which doesn’t have a massive amount of manual handling… the MYA nurse told me to tell the ward I’ve really hurt my back and just be careful. Just don’t push yourself too hard xxx
Did you not tell your work you had a ba? Cause i havent told them and dont really want to but also want to be taken seriously so i dont end up overdoing it xx
i haven’t told them for the same reason… i only have 1 week left to do of my placement before i have Christmas holidays though. Are you close wit anyone you work with? maybe you could tell them so they could cover for you a little bit/ look out for you xxx
I work out in the environment so in peoples homes. Alot of my calls are singles which is fine but the doubles are the difficult ones. I normally work with the same person but sometimes have different people so its difficult. Im quite a young carer and everyone is more older and i am close to a few of the girls but also nothing ever stays a secret!! So if i tell one its going to be everyone in my area that knows pretty much!!
Tell work you’ve really hurt your back and see if they’ll help you avoid heavy lifting – if it gets too difficult pull a sicky that’s what I’m going to do xx
Yeah sounds a good idea. Only problem is my work aren’t the best when you need to go off sick. I never have sick days and one time i really needed it they were still tryna force me to work.. But im just gonna put my foot down as im not ruining my puppies for work!!!! Haha xx
