Bad life habits…

Need some advice from anyone post op! Read below 🙂

So, just read through my surgery guidelines and instructions, smoking is not allowed two weeks before and 4-6 weeks after, and no alcohol 3 days before and 10 days after…

I was a chain smoker, actually quit for the op, use a vape pen now but still have the occasional roll up, but that’s not a problem that can be stopped… BUT honestly I do smoke weed mixed with tobacco, a joint a day or every 2… I know your obviously it states do not smoke but would weed, pure, still fall into that topic? Don’t know if there’s any smokers that have been in my situation, help if you can!!

Also, my surgery is Monday and my boss’s 50th birthday party is on the Saturday following… when did people start to drink? I’ve told him I most likely wont be up for it, but just wanted to see what other people have done in this kind of situation?

2 weeks till the big day…

@lauren ,not to sound like an old biddy but unfortunately no smoking means no smoking, no matter what it is. If they think you’ve been smoking, they’ll be very likely to cancel your op too. Drinking afterwards will delay your healing process as well. I’ve posted a couple of sites below that explain the main reasons behind why you can’t drink or smoke. You’ll will be paying a lot for these two little beauties and you want to give them the best chance possible to be perfect. I wouldn’t like to risk any complications. Just been reading the notes I got in my pre op yesterday and it says ” you must be two weeks clear from taking recreational drugs prior to surgery and until you are fully healed. You must disclose to the nursing team and your surgeon if you regularly use drugs as this is a contraindication to surgery” x

Giving up smoking isn’t a must but it’s advised, I didn’t quit I just cut down! Didn’t smoke in my first week of having my op as I could hardly moved and felt crap but smoked again from 2 weeks and I’ve healed really well but everyone’s body’s are different and yes it can slow your healing progress down so they advice people to quit.. I don’t smoke weed but as the lady above stated on our paper work it says to be clear 2 weeks from taking recreational drugs… everythingd confidential so maybe speak to your nurse. All the best for your op x
