Cannula – hard vein?

Has anybody else vein where the cannula was gone hard? It’s not at the site of the needle but all down my hand the vein is solid and a swollen lump? It’s only painful on a morning when I wake up but not sure if that’s anything to worry about?? Xx

What vein did they put it in hun? Wrist? Back of hand? x

I still have a hard lump and bruise but mine is where it actually went in x

It’s on the back of my hand, but the lump starts above my wrist about an inch from where the needle went in :-/ xx

Oh my god I thought they put it in your arm or on top of your hand I’m terrified of the cannula I’m not bothered about the op it’s the needle and my op is Tuesday xx

Do they put the cannula in when your awake as I can’t stand it it’s hard to even take blood from me asks veins always disappear I’m terrified x

Gemma, the cannula is what puts the anaesthetic in your veins, so you’ll be awake. It’s ok though – I’ve had an op before and it really doesn’t hurt at all and I’m terrified of needles. x

Don’t worry about the cannula girls! I just looked away and felt a tiny scratch and it was done, couldn’t even tell what was happening.

Also I have this exact same thing Lorna! (Lol your name just tried to autocorrect to ‘aliens’ haha). My cannula went in towards the bottom left of my hand but I have a big hard vein or something that I can feel like in between my 2 wrist bones and it’s really sore. I can feel a lump there that I don’t have on my other hand and it’s painful like a bruise or something if I can touch it, even hurts on the inside of my wrist too. I’m 12 days post op now and wondering when it’s going to stop hurting! xx

One of my friends had the same thing from the cannula when she had her gall bladder removed, said it took months to go!! Hope it’s not like that for me cos it bloody knacks!
