    Hi everyone

Does anyone have any info on capsular contracture, how likely it is and if anything can be done to prevent it please?

    Thank you xx

Hi Hannah, obviously I’m no professional! But my understanding of capsular contracture is that there isn’t any saying if it’s likely to happen to you or not. I think girls usually start to see it happening from six months but it can come on years afterwards. Antibiotics at the time of surgery can help, and some say that unders rather than overs can prevent it, due to the constant massage of the implant by the muscle reducing the scar tissue building up around the implant and compressing it. Basically it’s your own immune systems reaction to a foreign body. There’s tons of info online to read about it but I hope this helps. (Anybody can feel free to correct me if I’ve got any of it wrong!) xxx

Did you get given a booklet at your consultation? I got given one at my initial consultation with loads of info! Plus my surgeon went through all the risks at my surgeon consult and said capsular contraction is a 10% risk of all BAs. So 90% don’t end up with CC. What my surgeon told me is It’s basically your body forming a capsule of scar tissue around the implant (which is normal) but CC is when the capsule squeezes around the implants too tight and in severe cases makes it protrude (like squeezing a water balloon and it starts protruding through your fingers) which puts them at risk of rupturing. (im pretty sure that’s what I remember how he explained it!) but it’s quite rare only 10% and tends to be further down the line after the op 🙂 hope this helps! X
