Hi All, recently seen some posts about peoples operations being cancelled last minute due to some reason or another, I have crohns disease and my nurse said she doesnt think i should have it done, only as she had a very bias opinion of cosmetic surgery, and i know she wrote in my notes, advised against boob job. I am well enough 100000% to have it and live a very normal life! I dont want to pay all this money and go through with the whole process for them to then say no we are going to cancel?!! It would be horrible. I am booked to see the surgeon tonight – Mr Traynor but ive heard hes really blunt so nervous to ask this sort of question, any help appreciated xxx
@HANNAH i also have crohns and had my surgery on the 20th of last month, as long as u are not on any immune suppressants meds you are fine to go a head, I mentioned I had crohns to my surgeon Mr marceillo and he said it wouldn’t affect my procedure hope this helps Hun you can add me if you want xxx
@ they defiantly won’t operate on anyone who has been on anti depressants in the last six months or has had counciling don’t worry yourself to much Hun I was exactly the same as you up to the evening before when they called me I was convinced it was because they were gonna cancel but it was just to confirm the op for the next day, I think if you get confirmation from your surgeon then you won’t get cancelled xxx @HANNAH
My last operation for crohns was 2013 where they took some of my bowel away so I think it is mostly girls who have had depression or still suffer don’t have much of a chance with mya but there are other companies out there that don’t discriminate xxx@HANNAH
how weird @naima i had exactly the same operation in 2013 🙂 new years eve lol xxx
hopefully everything will be fine, ill double check with them tonight and stress how much i would rather know now than go through the process etc! It’s easy enoigh for me to stop my meds for a month or so xxxxx
Hannah i have severe ulcerative colitis (similar to crohns, mines large intestine) an lost 3 pints of blood in 2009, i also have a hole in my nose from the steroids they gave me an because of that i completely stopped taking medication in 2010, i still have flare ups here an there, i had my op done 15 days ago an it hasn’t affected me in any way xxxxx
Sounds awful Samantha, I had 6ft of my intestines completley removed 2 and a half years ago and I have been on humira since, with supresses my immune system, whichis the problem I think theyre gonna have with me, I know i’m fine and would happily come off my meds for a few weeks if need be!! I just dont want to pay all this money for them to cancel me xxxxx @samanthabella
Blimey!! Blimming bowel diseases aye, i really do hope everything works out for you lovely xxx
Hi, I’m booked in for surgery on 13th June, was ment to have it last year but due to being on steroids I couldn’t go ahead. I was on antidepressants and immune suppresent meds and they didn’t say anything about being on them. I’m still on them now so I’m worried! How did you get on?? X
@alisonpickin @naima @samanthabella hi girls, I went to see Mr Traynor last night and he said my treatment would need to be stopped a month before and a month after and I will need a letter from my specialist and from my GP, and they will sign it off and be more than happy to do it! He said he won’t go any higher than 350cc cos I’m small, but I tried that on and felt happy! Mr traynor clearly knows what he’s talking about and is going behind the muscle which is what I wanted too!! I am worried about getting the letter as I’ve been transferred to a new hospital and havnt actually met them yet so fingers crossed!! Alison your booked for your op??? Who with! Weird they havnt asked you to come off them as I’ve read things about depression too xxxxxx
@HANNAH that’s good news hun have you made your appointment for the surgery? My pc did ask me for a letter from my doctors but I didn’t go and get one as they have my doctors details to call up if they wanted but the surgeon never asked and I didn’t hear it again from pc, glad ur appointment went well hun xxx
Glad it went well. Because I was planning on having it done last year but in the end couldn’t, I literally rang last month and we booked the date! I’ve not met the surgeon yet, meeting on 20th may so I might stop my meds next week as the op is 5 weeks away! My gp wants me to come off the antidepressants so I might start weaning off those too! I don’t think my gp will do a letter,so I hope they don’t ask!! I’m really worried he won’t go ahead now. I go to the Bristol clinic, surgeon is me marcellino x
Ive been going to the manchester clinic hun, have you read all the other posts about anti-depressants, people have been refused due to having them years ago? apparently its a policy now hun, so i would 1000% ring your PC and have a chat, as my PC said last night the reason girls are being cancelled last minute is because they havnt been open and truthful from the start and then theyve had their medical records back and have had to cancel them, I would be really on the ball with it and let them know everything doll or you may end up disappointed, I am worried about the letter too as i havnt met my new consultant yet and my last one was bias and said ”well ive always had small boobs so i will not be recommending it” I
oops i sent that before i finished, I dont think the medication for crohns will be a problem from what they told me anyway, aslong as you get a letter and come off it prior and after for a while, but i think the anti depressants you should really ask about and read some of the posts on here about it xxxxxx
keep in touch! @alisonpickin
I only joined this forum yesterday so will have a good read through later on. Last year I told them all what I was taking, I will ring later and ask. I’ve paid deposit, will I get that back if they won’t go ahead,do you know? I’ll be so dissapointed if they won’t go ahead,I’ve booked a hotel and the time off work x
Yeah you get your money back Hun I asked this last night, I would just 10000% double check as I would hate for you to be disappointed xxxxx
I emailed my pc,she said it shouldn’t be a problem as long as my gp says I’m stable. She said people get cancelled last minute as they haven’t told the truth about meds. She said the Mya nurse will ring me today or tomorrow to discuss. So annoying having Crohn’s, always hinders things!! X
it ruins everything doesnt it !! @alisonpickin im glad they’ve said the same to you, i spoke to my pc AND the surgeon about people saying theyre ops are being cancelled last minute and they both said the same – that they’ve not been fully honest from the start or they havnt helped MYA get their doctors letters and stuff so i guess as prepared as you can be !! glad you called them xxxxx
