Hi Girls, I’ve made a post on this topic before briefly about how I’m pretty sure I have TBD. I have an appointment booked for tomorrow morning with a local GP (I live in Northern Ireland) but I’ve been told on many occasions and found online that a lot of GPs do not know of the condition. I also am pretty nervous to do so as I’m so insecure of my breasts and can barely look at them myself let alone let someone else, so I’m debating whether to cancel the appointment or not. But my question to you all is how exactly did you get diagnosed? Did you see a local GP or did one of the surgeons at one of your MYA consultations inform you? Many thanks, Hannah x (Also feel free to add me as a friend, the more information I get the merrier! :))

Okay, so I am just home from my appointment with a local GP and I was right, she had never heard of TBD before. Despite telling her how much this has affected my life, she said that I would have very little chance of getting anything even done on the NHS (avg. of 3/4 years waiting list). From reading the characteristics she came to the opinion that I do not have tuberous breasts, but I remain unconvinced. Should I get a second opinion?

    Hi Hannah,

I have never been to a GP to get a diagnosis, mostly because I felt too insecure to show anyone my boobs, but I was always sure I had tuberous breast. It wasn’t until my first consultation that it was ‘diagnosed’ and honestly it was such a relief. Firstly for someone to confirm that there was something ‘wrong’ and it wasn’t just in my head, but also to know that I wasn’t alone and that they could help. So, I would definitely recommend going for a consultation, and I hope you get the answer you are looking for and the support to make the steps towards a happier more confident you!

    Hi Hannah,
I never knew of the condition until I was watching a to programme about surgery years ago. A girl on the programme had tuberous breasts and I thought they look just like my boobs!
I never had the courage to check this with anyone, I mentioned it once to a GP but at the time he was doing my blood pressure and told me I was getting worked up (which was making my BP high) therefore he said I should make another appointment about my boobs if they were a concern. As I was fobbed off I never had the courage to go back again.
When Dr Traynor told me at my first appointment that I was tuberous I cried. I think it was just relief at finally knowing why I wasn’t like every other girl!
I’m now 7 weeks post op, whilst I can say I’m 100% happy with my boobs at the moment they are definately so much better than they were before and I wouldn’t change my decision to have a breast enlargement.
I would definately recommend going to see a surgeon at MYA to confirm your suspicions about TB and discuss your options for surgery if that’s what you want, the opertionscan vary depending on the severity of your TB
    Good luck. X

Thank you ladies @jessj and @hayley08 xx Your words have really reassured me, times are tough at the moment as I’m still rather indecisive about it all. I posted on a site called RealSelf and cosmetic surgeons looked at pics of my breasts and said I didn’t have the condition but still showed similarities. I have no idea as to how this could be the case, I am still very much going to research but maybe find a surgeon here in Ireland, it’s unfortunate that MYA haven’t branched out here. But I may fly out to London for at least one consultation too, just to compare
