I’m booked at the Fitzroy two weeks time, only a day case and coming from bristol, my friend is taking me and back but can I go in have it done then return to bristol or do I have to find a hotel to stay at? Can’t afford to spend money on a hotel/ travel lodge etc. X

Hi, I believe of your more than an hour away from the hospital they like you to stay in a hotel in case for whatever reason you may bed to go back. I travelled from Newcastle to Preston and stayed in the ibis which is literally around the corner from hospital. Although some ppl haven’t and came home. It’s just more for your safety. X

It’s recommended that if your travel is 1 hour more then you should stay close. Trust me you will not want to go all the way back to Bristol on the day of your op!!

I’m not sure what to do, luckily my children are away that weekend but my friend has a child which means she would have to sort childcare for the night, and not fair asking her to pay to stay so I would but cant afford both of us :-/ x

I’m a daycase and I live 1 hour 40min away…i actually settle better being in my own bed so the drive (my mums driving btw) will be worth it, if your not well enough they will tell u u have to stay, they will only let you home if they are 100% happy.

I’m a day case and travelling from Bristol way also. I’m coming straight home after the op as I’m willing to take that risk and I’d prefer to be in my own bed. It’s such a small risk that something will happen and the pain on the 2nd day when you wake up is suppose to be worse than on the day of the op because you don’t have as much pain killers in your system etc. So personally I’d prefer to get home while i’m not in as much pain, espeically with a nearly 3hr drive x

Hi. I had my op yesterday in mancheter which is a 2 and a half hour drive. Nurse advises you stay close but my pc and hospital nurses didnt seem to concerned. Journey back was fine just took some pillows. Only downside was that i didnt get home till 1am. Xx
