Hi, I’m hoping to have my BA done at lot earlier then planned…..jan 9th, but I haven’t got a lot of annual leave left, my boss knows about my surgery and he will be supported but I wanted to know if I could ask for a week off sick rather then using my last bit of annual leave….what do you all think?

He’s off sick at the min, so I’m waiting for him to come back so I can ask all these questions. Xx

Hi I’m a carer, I’m only taking a week off! Gonna take it easy n not do any strenuous work, I’m having BA Friday then return to work Friday after, I must be mad lol, I’m also moving house next few weeks x

    Menu

I got signed of sick for 4 weeks, from the house dr at highgate. But took 2 weeks of as annual leave, seemed a bit cheeky as it’s elective.

You could ask for sick but remember it will go on your record and would look bad if you move to a new job xxx

I don’t think a weeks sicknote will be a major problem.. Not everyone goes through life being perfectly healthy x

Plus its being signed off by the doctor because uve had an op.. it will only look bad if ur ringing in sick for a week!

I’d be so surprised if they let you pre arrange sick! I personally would use your annual leave, but then if you find you need longer then that would be sick.

I must be lucky but I had a BA and lipo and felt fine after day 5. I ended up being 10 days PO when I returned to work as I had op on Friday then all the following week off.

Its not pre arranged because you’d be signed off sick from the day of your op.. I’ve just let my manager know that I’ll be off for a week from 27th december so she’s aware.. That’s with a sicknote.. Then my annual leave follows straight on from the 3rd jan.. There’s no way you can be refused a sick note and rather then letting your manager (or whoever) know on the actual day of your op I think its only polite to let them know beforehand incase of cover.. Hope that makes sense x

It makes sense but your chosing to have this surgery so effectively your chosing to be sick. I mean if your manager is happy with that then that’s great but personally I couldn’t do that.

Maybe it’s just different professions that can be more flexiable.

You don’t legally have to tell your employer what your off for.. Also you can self ceritify yourself off sick for 7 days before you need a sick note (actually called fit note) so you could do that and add on more sick or holidays.. Depending on what u can afford I can’t afford two weeks off sick hence why I’ve added annual leave on x

I’ve just spoke to my work today and HR said if I have cosmetic surgery I have to take it as annual leave…..gutted but oh well I’ll take the holiday. Xx

You didn’t legally have to tell them that that’s what you’d be off for.. You can self certify up to 7 days anytime after has to be covered by a sick note.. That’s pretty poo 🙁 how much holiday have you got to use? X

Well I new I had to tell them cuss people in the office would know and I wouldn’t want it to get back to my big boss. I work 4 days a week so I need to book 5 days in total annual ……for my surgery and a week off, then I could work a week from home. I’d be back in the office by week 3 but I’d have to travel an hour to work once a week to a different office so I hope I will feel ok driving. Xx

I think integrity comes into it more with regards to whether it’s taken as sick or not I guess.

I only took 6 days off work and I’m fine. But saying that I sit at a desk most of the day so it’s not really strenuous.

    Best of luck girls!

Yeah it does Becky, I’m not the sort to make a fuss at work so I’d rather do it the right way. Thanks. X

It’s best to hun. I could only imagine going off sick then returning to work with big boobs, I’d lose so much respect in the office.

But obviously if you have any complications (which I’m sure you won’t) then it can’t be helped if you have to take a few extra days off sick.
