Can anyone tell me if its a doctors referral MYA need or just a letter saying that I am fit for surgery?Or are these the same thing?!

I went to see my GP today who said they have had nothing through from MYA and was unsure what is was they actually wanted? (He thought it was a referral but I’m not 100% sure!) So I’ve phoned my PC who said they sent the fax on the 18th August but not to worry too much about the letter as I don’t really need one due to having no concerns over anything on my medical records.

Has anyone else had their op without having this letter from their GP? Even though I’v been told not to worry about it i’m deff worrying about it and just have a horrible feeling my op will be cancelled if I don’t end up getting one!

    xx

MYA sent my Doctors surgery a fax and my doctor refused to sign it and said it should be down to my surgeon and anaesthetist to decide whether I’m fit for surgery. In the end, MYA said it wasn’t essential anyway as there wasn’t any concerns with my medical history or bloods ???? Xx

@jessica-smith That’s exactly what my doctor said today, and my PC said the same about having no concerns with my medical history and I didn’t need any bloods. Have you had your op then? No issues from not having the letter? xx

Hey Samantha! I had this stress leading up to my op! I was constantly on the phone to mya and the nurse and they didn’t need anything from my gp. If they have no concerns with the information you’ve given to them and as long as they have your nhs number too they won’t need anything from gp. I just had my surgery yesterday so you’ll be fine. Just get mya to tell you I’m writing so you can keep a record xxx

@indi555 Okay that’s good to know, they have my NHS number and everything else is fine so maybe I should just trust them when they say not too worry lol. I’ll get my PC to email me everything she told me, good idea! Thanks for your help hun, hope your op went well! xxx

I’ve had my op yesterday and there were no problems about the GP letter – wasn’t even mentioned. Everyday leading up to the operation, I was worrying so much and kept checking my phone all the time incase they rung to cancel my op, I know how you feel! it honestly will be fine though. 🙂 xx
