So I’ve heard from other girls that they’ve had to get their doctors to give a letter saying they’re fit for surgery, and I’ve also heard that MYA do this for you if they have your NHS number. MYA have my NHS number but I’ve heard nothing in terms of this doctors letter which is worrying me because my op is in 10 days and my PC hasn’t called me to say they’ve got everything they need and to confirm everything which girls have been saying they’ve had and some are even having their op later than me and have had all of this. I messaged my PC earlier today but haven’t yet received a reply so I’ve emailed my Nurse although not sure there’s anything she can do because I don’t know if she deals with that side of things. I don’t know what to do I’m panicking like mad???
I had to pay my doctor’s surgery £35 for a letter saying I was physically and mentally fit enough for the op. As I take meds for anxiety my surgeon wouldn’t go ahead without it but not sure in other circumstances Hun x
I literally am clueless I’ve heard nothing in terms of this letter and it’s getting very close to my operation date now, I’m genuinely getting ready for the “we can’t go ahead with your op” phone call, it’s really worrying me
I’ve just had my pre op assessment today.
And she said that they had received my doctors letter and the surgeon had signed it off.
Might be worth ringing your nurse again tomorrow? I don’t know if I was told because the surgeon needed to make sure it was ok because of medication I have been on though xx
I just received an automatic reply to my email saying she isn’t back in the office until Monday now, which will be 6 days before my op, great 🙁
Why don’t you give your doctors a ring and find out if one has been sent? Just if you’re struggling on the MYA end?
They should be able to tell you if it’s been sent at least? If it has, panic over. And if it hasn’t I’d ring your clinic and tell them just incase
Hope you get it sorted!! Xx
I think you only need to supply a doctor letter if you have any medical history that would potentially deem you unsuitable for surgery.
Have you been 100% honest with them about your medical history including mental health. If you have and they haven’t asked you for a letter then I think you’ll be fine.
I was honest on my initial consultation and they asked for a doctors note as I had post natal depression.
I got my letter and submitted it ASAP.
They seem happy with it all.
Don’t worry unless you know you have a reason that they may need a letter
I have no history of mental illness but some of the girls I’ve spoken to haven’t either and yet they’ve still had to get their doctor to say they’re fit for surgery, which is why MYA asked for my NHS number I imagine?x
All is okay, my PC has just replied confirming everything is fine 🙂
