Hey girls just a quick, random question. Do you know why some surgeons go by ‘Dr’ and some by ‘Mr’? I have seen surgeons go by Dr but the ones at MYA all seem to be Mr? Does that mean they don’t have the same qualifications? X
Consultant surgeons tend to drop the Dr and call themselves Mr once they reach a certain level. They don’t have too but it’s just done for some reason. Pretty sure you have to be Dr and reach a certain level before u can call yourself Mr xxx
I wouldn’t be worried about BAAPS. I asked my PC this and she said a lot of surgeons won’t pay to be put on the register as it isn’t cheap even though they earn a fortune! 🙂
Generally when doctors graduate from medical school they have the title ‘Dr’ and this will remain with them. Doctors who specialise in medicine will remain a doctor such as consultants in diabetes or respiratory or stroke. When doctors specialise in surgery and become an actual surgeon thats where the title MR comes from. So as they are surgeons at MYA they will be known as MR. They are obviously still doctors though so some may prefer to be called a doctor still xx
