I have wanted a BA for years but especially after having my daughter nearly 2 years ago. The only thing holding me back is that I have a severe fear of needles and the thought of having a cannula scares the hell out of me! Did anyone have any issues with the cannula? I know this is a silly fear but it’s really holding me back! Please share you experiences with the needles girls!

I have mine next week babe, I have never been scared of needles but thinking about it making me feel physically sick. I think if your that nervous I think the nurses can give you some gas and air to calm you down before they put the needle in xxx

Thankyou for your replies! Good luck Sophie, hope it all goes well! When I had my little girl they tried to insert a cannula but couldn’t get it in so I begged them to stop, it’s made me even more afraid. Feel so stupid that it’s what’s holding me back as after having me daughter I defo don’t have the boobs of a 21 year old. Just worried that they won’t be able to get it in and have to spend ages trying! Xx

I totally understand the more they try an you wait around the worse it gets but at the end of the day, you can express your concerns to the nurse and they can relax you before you go in and its such a big operation in itself a little needle compared to what your having done is nothing xxxx

Hi hun im 3 weeks post op and i am absolutely petrified of needles. I past out before i even see one. I have panic attacks and all sorts. However i can promise you that i didnt feel a thing, the needle did not hurt at all going in or going out! They say “it might sting ” but i couldnt feel a thing. when they took the canula out i couldnt feel a thing either. The drains dont hurt either, but when they get taken out it can be a bit uncomfortable but not painful… i promise you have nothing to worry about… xxxx

Ahh thanks so much girl, feeling so much better. I know I sound like a baby but if there were no needles involved I would have it tomorrow! Lulu thank you for mentioning the drains as this was another thing I was worried about! Going to speak to my hubby and see if he’ll let me book a consultation, so excited! Xxx

    Ah honestly don’t worry!
I’m really really scared of needles 🙁 but I can honestly say I don’t even remember the needle/Canular at all… They said to me ‘ooooh no gold stars for you today’ because they struggled to find a vein – I was cold and nervous.. But rather than letting me worry about it they kept me pre-occupied and chatted to me. Before I knew it, I felt a tiny little scratch (honestly) and next thing I knew I was waking up from anaesthetic. Tell them you’re worried about the canular and they’ll probably take it out before you wake up?
Not all surgeons use drains either 🙂 I had Mr Traynor and he doesn’t use them.
Don’t let your fear of needles hold you back, it’s all over before you know it and I can’t even remember the needles part of it! Go for it, you won’t look back 🙂 xxx

They are lovely and will try to do everything to keep you at ease, you can have numbing cream on the back of your hand for cannula 🙂 xx

Ideal situation would be to have gas and then the needle, were they happy to do it or did you have to persuade them quite a lot to do gas first? Hubby has agreed to getting my boobs done but I live in bournemouth which is quite far from the nearest MYA hospital 🙁 xxx
