Hey girls!! have my first consultation on the 24th April. Was just wondering if anyone could tell me what actually happens in the 1st consultation? What gets discussed? Do ya book your op there and then? and how long does
it take to have the 2nd consultation. Thanks xxxx
Hi on your first consultation you meet your PC and she goes through everything with you, recommends surgeons but in my case I went in knowing which surgeon I wanted, you can book surgery there and then but you don’t have to, if you have a specific date in mind she’ll see if it’s free and if it is then it’s £1000 deposit. Your second consultation is when you meet the surgeon and try the sizers on mine took about 20 mins but it all depends on how many questions etc you’ve got. Good luck! Xx
Hey,
yes as Danielle said your initial consultation is with your PC (Patient Co-ordinator) this person is assigned to you throughout your whole MYA journey.
You will fill out a long questionnaire about your health etc while you’re waiting in the waiting room.
You will be given an information pack and your PC will go through everything with you.
You will get to ask any questions you want to ask.
You will be shown recommended surgeons (I knew which surgeon I wanted as I had done years and years of research prior to having my consultation and that is why I went to MYA to have that specific surgeon so if you do like the look of a particular surgeons work you can ask to see that surgeon. Bearing in mind certain surgeons only consult at certain clinics)
You will get to try on sizers so you can get a general idea of the size you feel comfortable with (but the surgeon will offer you the sizes he thinks are appropriate for you during your 2nd consultation)
You can book your op in your initial consultation but I personally would never book surgery prior to meeting the surgeon as it is really important you meet your surgeon and figure out if that particular person is the right person for you and you have faith that they can achieve the look you want.
You can look at rough dates though of surgery should you wish to go ahead with your surgery.
You can also say which hospital you would prefer to go to as there are a few different ones around the country.
It isn’t until your 2nd consultation that you meet your surgeon. Many people will have consultations with different surgeons and it is suggested you do so, but as I said I knew from years which surgeon I wanted to go with so actually went ahead and booked my surgery after my surgeon consultation.
In this consultation you will talk about the look you want to achieve, you can show the surgeon pictures of looks you like.
You will get undressed and the surgeon will look at your breasts and do some measuring, then he will say which sizes he can offer you based on your frame and current size etc he will also say which profile (high, extra high, moderate, moderate plus etc) and the placement (over, under or partial)
He /she will go through complications etc you can ask questions too.
Depending on when you want to book your surgery sometimes you have 2 consultations with your surgeon, I only had one as I booked my surgery pretty quickly. I suffer with anxiety so wanted it done asap so I didn’t work myself up for months about having the operation!
After you’ve booked your surgery date you will have a pre-op appointment with the nurse, this is usually a few weeks before your surgery date. She will take MRSA swabs, weight, height, talk through your health, you may need blood tests (I did, but not everyone does) pictures will be taken so you can have before and afters. You will be given more info in a pack.
Then it’s surgery after that 🙂
You’ll have your post op appointments with your nurse at 1 week post op (you may have a 2 week checkup too depending on which surgeon you have) and see the surgeon again about 6-8 weeks after your surgery
All of your consultations and pre-op/post-op appointments will be at your clinic and you will have your surgery at your chosen hospital.
All of my appointments were really close together, it depends on how flexible you are with consultation dates and surgery dates. If you are completely flexible you can get your surgery booked in pretty quickly.
To give you an idea I had my 1st consultation with my PC on March 11th, I saw my surgeon in my 2nd consultation on March 13th and then had surgery at the end of March 🙂 so mine all happened really quickly, but I had done so much research and wanted to get it done quickly so I didn’t worry myself and work myself up over having the surgery due to anxiety
I hope that helps lovely, if you have any questions I am happy to answer any 🙂
