Hi Girls,
I’ve just had a routine Gp appointment and he was very concerned they haven’t changed dressings since 7th June (7 dpo check up) I’m booked back in with the nurse on Mon 26th making it two weeks since last dressing change. They’re sweaty given current weather and he’s said to either take them off myself and let air at the site or see the practice nurse tomorrow and get fresh dressings. Apparently I’m
A breeding ground for bacteria with sweat soaked dressings.
I’m 21 days post op today. What should I do? Has anyone else had dressings on for two weeks and not had a change?
Thanks!
I had mine changed at 7 dpo and was told another appointment at 2 weeks which I have Friday, I would probably get the nurse to change them before your next appointment
I had mine changed at 7DPO then changed them myself at 11DPO because I was sweaty. I’m 13DPO today and the nurse took them off x
@Cliqin
Do you mean the white plasters by dressings? I bought my own from Boots and just changed them myself every night, you can also get waterproof ones. I even used those large oval cotton wool pads to cover the incisions and taped them on with microporous tape, this was so comfy at night to prevent the band on my bra irritating the incisions. Hope this helps xx
Hey I had an uplift also ans had mine changed weekly for four weeks amd that was I’m Dec. If u get the go ahead of defo cleanse and change them yourself as your GP is totally right especially considering the crazy heatwave we are having. U wana feel comfortable at least
Thanks girls, I’ve taken the strips off and I’m in a total panic, both incisions look wet and moist and angry. Pretty sure I shouldn’t have had the same dressing on for nearly 2.5 weeks. Why don’t they instruct you on proper wound care. I’m completely freaking their infected. Esp right one. It’s a state and not neat at all.
I havent had my dressing changed since my op im 13dpo
Hoping everything is alright underneath x
I’d have to agree with your GP hun 2 weeks is really bad, like you should get them changed and let air to them asap! if this was christmas time i wouldnt be as worried but yeah hun they should have changed them at 7DPO!
hun just read your last post im so sorry but 2.5 weeks is horrific (im a pharmacy student!) and im really praying they arent infected, like the girls have said get them cleaned and put on again ASAP or go to Boots and buy some to do yourself – if you’re not sure watch youtube videos! not sure whats up with mya sometimes i find them really hit and miss sometimes…. that should not have happened especially in this heatwave! but dont panic just take action im sure everything will be okay at least you realised this now xxxx
Thank you,
They were gooey like if you’ve had a plaster on a cut too long.
I’ve cleaned the area gently with sterile water and cotton pads and let the air at them all night and just wore my breast band and they look so much better today.
I will be complaining, it’s just too long to leave it and for no wound care is just stupid. I think I’ve just managed to swerve an infection but god knows what would’ve happened if I left them on until Monday. Pretty sure my surgeon wouldn’t think it was acceptable.
Kirsty – why have you not had your 7 day check?!
cliona when i was on my way there was a fatality on motorway which got closed so i had to cancel, earliest they could fit me in was today.
I have been today tho & all is good, everything is healing really well, nurse said i dont need to go back now till 4weeks time!!
Can now drive, have a shower & lay flat on my back ???? x
At my 1 week post op they gave me my own strips and said to change them myself twice a week (or more if I wanted but no need to normally) until my 6 week post op check up so I know they all do it differently but I am surprised they’re not changed more than that?!
